Question A small list of question's from a new S owner.

Hello guy's, before I start asking question's I'll post a list of (known) mods on this car:
1991 fully built KA24DE with a GT35(r) turbo.
KA24DET
.20 overbore
CP 8:5 Compression pistons.
Eagle rods
ACL race bearings
light weight flywheel
Stage 3 clutch
ARP Head studs
Apexi head gasket
Ported/polished head
5 angle valve job
polished crank
850cc injectors
top fuel rail
walbro 255
AEM EMS
Apexi AVCR boost controller
KYB GX2 struts
tein pillowball springs
1 piece alm. drive shaft
hicas delete
VLSD diff.

Now there is the known list. And here comes some question's;
~Im running just 13-15 PSI, a friend said that seemed extremely low for what this car is, so... is it?
~I have ALOT of motor oil blow out of tranny hole where shifter is?
~BIG~QUESTION~ What kinda transmission works in these cars? I need one.. badly.
~My speedo hand jumps and hops around?
~Car kinda studders when it starts making boost in like 3rd gear?
~Early of a morning it idles between 1k, an 2k...that normal?

Any information would be extremely helpful as I'm new to these car's and I have no idea about these kinda car's. Its my first EVER turbo car....

~Im running just 13-15 PSI, a friend said that seemed extremely low for what this car is, so... is it?

Get dyno'd with air/fuel readings from a tuner that knows what they're doing. Don't listen to a friend that doesn't know anything.

~I have ALOT of motor oil blow out of tranny hole where shifter is?

I assume you're talking about transmission fluid? Take your shift knob off, pull off the trim, and check where it's leaking from. There should also be a rubber boot underneath the regular shift boot that keeps much of that oil in. Make sure that's not torn.

~BIG~QUESTION~ What kinda transmission works in these cars? I need one.. badly.

How do you know you need one badly? Are you sure most of the tranny fluid hasn't leaked out and is causing grinding? Have you checked the fluid level or replaced the fluid yet?

For what transmissions work, look what you have and search around if you want to make something else work.

~My speedo hand jumps and hops around?

I'm sure there's posts on this out there. Search. Search. Search some more. Is it only the speedo hand? Is it stock cluster? Could be electrical, the sensor, the cluster...

~Car kinda studders when it starts making boost in like 3rd gear?

See my response to your 1st question. Pay attention to aftermarket gauges if you have them.

~Early of a morning it idles between 1k, an 2k...that normal?

See my response to your 1st question again. The ECU generally accounts for cold weather / cold starts. The engine could rev to ~1.5K during warm-up and slowly come down to ~800 when fully warmed. It should not be bouncing between 1K and 2K.

I have air/fuel readings......The transmission is beyond repair I do think. Im a Mechanic, an however I don't think this kid had it tuned right. However he said it was, and the friend of mine is a highly knowledgeable guy on tuner's.......So he does know what he is speaking about. However I just wanted to know what other's think/know.

Take it and put it on a dyno, monitor A/F's w/ a WIDEBAND not some narrow band gauge. Do some pulls, have tuner fix issues if any arise. HOW do you know the trans is gone? WHEN the car is warmed up, where does it idle?

When it is warmed up, it *should* run around 900 the guy said. However it idles at 900 sometimes and other times it idles around 1100 also. An I have a nice moniter, where should the a/f run around at? At full boost or atleast when I get on it, it runs down to around 10 even.

Considering the engine is built and the size of the turbo thats on it, I wouldnt be surprised if it has big cams on it. If it has bumpy cams on it, you'll never get a solid idle on it. Just get it as low as possible without it dying every time you come to a stop.

How do you know the transmission is shot? Is the car undrivable? Its a KA, you can always find another stock transmission on it and drive it like that. But considering what you're working with engine wise, you need a better option. Z32 transmission upgrade.

As far as you AF...safe AF under WOT should be around 11-11.5. 10 is okay but its too rich. Would rather run rich than lean.

I ran a GT3582R on my SR20, boosting 1.5 bar for daily and push it close to 2 bar when driving it like a mad man. Laggy as shit for me considering I didnt hit boost till 5000 rpm. You need more than 14-15 psi to really wake the car up. Get it retuned and see how far you can safely push it. I was making around 500hp with that setup.

That's something I thought about and was really surprised cams weren't on the list when I read through it.

Side note, sometimes I wonder if people go back and read what they type...or if people would really speak the way they type.

Thank's. I'v pulled the tranny, and redone some seals and what not, however I think the sequencer's are all but gone. I'v done alot of v8 drag car's, and always built a good auto tranny for it. Maybe that'd be a option? And the Z32 tranny upgrade, whats a round # on the total cost? I can get tranny's all day for a few 100..... Had a friend that builds these type of car's that the idle could be do to a vacuum hose being left off, which I never thought about. And as far as a tune, I'm looking for BrewedMotorSports to do that for me very soon.

What was your full setup for a 500hp car? Everyone that goes for a ride in mine said its dead even on 400+hp alrdy. But having traction problems :P

Yo monster car is very nice my friend... But would be even better with a brewed tune. Brewedmotorsports tuned my s14 and since than everything has been tits. By far the best KA knowledge in the industry. Go brewed and you won't be disappointed. Baller support and "#1" service. Btw made 386rwhp & 341 rwtq @ 16 psi (mustang dyno).

Cbcm2435 I'll have your d max body kit info for you wed. of course thank you much for the review always a pleasure working with you!

Monster
Haha I hear the smart phone/I pod forum posting wo's (as I type from an I touch) what kind of body kit are you looking for? Your car is already looking damn clean in the picture you posted but I can understand if your looking to change things up a bit. As for valves and springs there are a ton of good options it really just depends on how "balls to the wall" you want to go. If you like I'd be happy to give ya a ring to discuss. (I don't trust my I pod typing enough to post that much info though haha)

Well Eric has alot of knowledge with the ka24 and willing to make everything right. Also works and tunes on about anything you can think of... Smart dude! He helped me build and he dailed my s14 perfect in 2009. 3 years later Eric stands by and supports all his work. Never let me down once can't say that about the other people I've delt with. I'll never choose anybody other than brewedmotorsports hands down brother!
