Choices: Nissan GT-R or Ford Mustang GT500?
11-19-2009 10:55 AM
Filed under: Coupe, Performance, Etc., Ford, Nissan Click above to read the rest of the post and vote in our poll A few months back we were lucky enough to roll around in a 2010 Nissan GT-R. On our way up to a pre-burnt Angeles Crest Highway for the now infamous flip-flop-gate photoshoot, yours truly began explaining to our intrepid photographer Drew Phillips just exactly how Nissan's latest and greatest is faster than a speeding Gallardo, more powerful than a F430 and able to leap tall canyon roads without breaking a sweat. And on and on and on. When I finally shut up, Drew asked me, "Would you take a GT-R over a GT500?" Whoa... Read the rest of the post and vote in our poll after the jump. Ive driven a GT500... it was a near stock 07 vert, owned by a guy who owns 3 gt500's, a 600hp 02 Camaro SS, and a 800HP 03 Cobra Vert. Yeah, he was pretty loaded. Needed some help getting his cars to and from a local car show. That was one of the funnest cars I've ever driven. And as a then 18 year old kid driving a black GT500 vert, I got so many looks. It was awesome.
never driven a GTR though, so Ive only got half the arguement lol

Its a stupid comparison. Totally different cars, in totally different price ranges. One is live axle 2WD and the other is fully independent AWD. One is Normally aspirated and the other is turbocharged, and the list goes on...
Its also somewhat of a polarized subject. On one hand you have American Muscle car lovers who can't see anything but. On the other hand you have Foreign sports car and Super Car fans that would for the most part never touch an American Muscle car. In other words? LAME article.

If I was buying a car based of performance numbers alone the GTR would win. But if I was buying a car to drive everyday, mod to hell and back and wanted a useable back seat and trunk the Ford GT500 would win. Only about 2% of the people on this board would ever beable to use a GTR's abilities to its fullest. Let alone use a gt500 to its fullest as well. Also maintenance costs on the gt500 are like 1/10th the cost in comparison to a gtr. Not to mention the 30+K price difference with the advantage going to the GT500. I wonder what 30k could do to a gt500? Looks also go to the new gt500 in every way! (IMO) Also has anyone here ever gotten an insurance quote on the GTR? I can insure 2 zo6's to 1 GTR.
Why compare a GT touring car to a SUPPOSED supercar. The article is not much better than drunk dive bar talk. The GTR is a great car with not much to compare to in this country. We dont get other great import cars like the EVO fq400's. |

Yes, kinda ludicris to truely compare BUT, you do what you can. Look at all aspecs like price, performance numbers, it's purpose, maintenance cost/reliability, etc... Take it for a long test drive, then make the choice. I'd choose the GTR because I'm biased. Not to mention it'll do most of the driving for me.

Screw it lets throw the ford GT in here for comparisons sake!!! Owns any GTR-
And who the heck wants a car to drive it for them? Other then old guys and nervous bad drivers? Zr1 for the win!!!!!!! Only like 5k more than the average GTR and like 10x more performance value! |
