Sunroof plug?
Does anyone know if either carbon fiber of fiberglass sunroof plugs are made? I've been hunting around for a while and haven't come across anything. I was hoping to find something that used a latch or hood pin style attachment system so that the plug could be taken out for those days when it's nice out.

Kognition Design (a sponsor on our site) used to have them. Currently they aren't listed on the website though
I tried to build my own, it looks like hot garbage and it's cracking already (only like 1 event worth of driving on it) I'm gonna try to buy one from them soon

I found a place that makes CF ones, but you have to send them the measurements and hope it fits right (and they run about 500 bucks). I'll try to find the link later on tonight.
EDIT: But they aren't easily removeable. That'd be gay anyway. lol |

If you "don't know", why fucking bother replying in the first place?
Wtf?
There are valid reason why someone would remove a sunroof and assembly on a competition car! Why don't you think and stop trying to show why Zilvian's are considered assholes?! ![]() |

A solution was already given to the thread starter. Just because you drive your car to the grocery store fast doesn't make what you have a track car. Removing the sunroof is usefull on s14's primarily due to the lack of headroom. But if you are too much of a pansy why the fuck don't you roll down your windows? You aren't going to have your cake and eat it too. The reasons why zilvians get angry because people like you make stupid statements. Use your brain and come back when you have thought about what you said.

I'm am/was having a great day. I just find his comment pointless. if you want to delete the sunroof, buy the plug. I
f you don't then leave the oem sunroof. There is no need for you to talk for me when I'm well aware of what I said.

I have one from Kognition I belevie it was his first one since it came out of there race car. I couldnt tell you how much I paid for it since I dont remeber. But like all of the work that comes out of thier shop its perfect, I also got 3 magnets to help set the sunroof at hight and there were CF brackets that help secure it to the roof. All in all I highly recomend it.

i17? hahha. Yeah, I was years ago. Now you brag on the other cars you have. Don't even start The cars I have will shit on yours. What does talking about a pathfinder have to do with a sunroof plug anyways? hahaha. I've been into the game long before the first Fast & Furious. Your mama jokes?! Did you think of that one on your own. Funny how you talk shit about nothing that pertains to what I was talking about. Like I said and keep saying. Use the Kognition Design plug. If you want to free up headroom space or make your own. if you want to have air and light then rock oem. How hard is that to understand. Ugh some people never learn. The thread starter had his question answered. Someone might as well lock this thread for all the fail and aids that has been shit apon it.

So if im reading this whole thread correct the original poster was basically looking for a carbon version of the glass to save weight but retain the functionality of the sunroof/moonroof as in being able to open it.

That's dumb. being as how its been stated where and who to contact for a plug. The weight he would save means shit for s13's being as how the oem latch weighs close to nothing. There are many other ways he could go about saving weight and he wouldn't notice the handeling difference. I'm SURE the weight could be made up elsewhere.
Ugh. I'm sick of typing on my phone. To have a pure track car you need to make some sacrifices. lol @ thread

A vintage 1998 240SX is not an M6. A 240SX will never be anything CLOSE to an M3, or an M6, ever. Admit the truth. You have stock brakes, or Z32 brakes at best. You dont have Brembo BBK, which an M3 or an M6 has. You dont have ANYTHING on your car that can compare to the parts found on that caliber car. Having a carbon lid is great. Having a moonroof is great. However, removing your OE, fully functional, glass moonroof to replace it with a manually removable carbon lid has to be one of the stupidest ideas I've ever heard of. Along with Porsche not installing a nose badge on the GT3, but instead putting a fucking STICKER in the mission of "saving weight." I hate when people are stupid about weight. If you want a fucking Ferrari or a supercar, what have you, then buy a fucking supercar. |

Well, no matter how much people agree with you it won't change the fact that there are people on here who are interested in this option.
But I totally agree with you and Zar on this because the original owner on my s13 hatch had the dealer install an aftermarket sunroof which is even more gay than the oem one. So I'm all for completely closing it up because I can't stand the weakened structural integrity. If you want a stiff chassis sunroofs are gay. Pretty good guess. I do happen to have z32 brakes on my car. And the fact that a 240sx will never be on the same level as an M series BMW doesn't change the fact that they need beefy brakes and carbon fiber roofs because they are severely overweight cars. What's an M6 weigh? Like 3900lbs IIRC. And I'll be the first to admit that I can't afford an M6 but if I could I'd buy a 911 gt3 ![]() |

the point of the plug IMO is to save weight
that includes not only the glass ,but the track, wires and switches for it too

fwiw..
back in the day when people used to drag and street race hondas.. power to weight ratio was really important b/c when you're facing a v8 400hp/tq 4000lb mustang with your puny honda civic or crx with a 1.8l motor, weight is the only thing that can help you even the odds. (turbo, motorswaps, and weight were the only options to even the odds back then, since the luxury of swapping RBs, 20Bs, 2jz, or LS1s in various cars like today didnt exist back then ) anyways.. i remember one of my friends friends was so obsessed about weight savings that he spent hella money replacing every steel bolt he could with titanium, stripped interior, done every weight reduction mod imaginable. i remembered him mentioning and emphasizing that he saved a significant amount of weight from the power sunroofs assembly in his CRX since those weigh about 40lbs. i think he replaced it with a cf cover. but he somehow got his crx to 1500-1600lbs territory. so yes.. i know ppl who are very anal about weight savings and would dump any thing they can that's not needed. this includes sunroof glass b/c glass is heavy. to some people, ditching sunroof is stupid but to others they are willing to do it. i am not one of those people who are too anal about weight savings even though i care about it. i dont find the trade offs of stripped out car, no a/c, etc as worthwhile for my daily driver as i prefer those luxuries but other people may be willing to ditch those. i know ppl who can live without a/c in their car but not me.. im too much of a pansy i guess.. to each his own preferences.. if this guy wants to replace his sunroof with a plug for track then who cares. sunroof can always be put back with ease for daily drivibility convience.. its like people who dont mind switching brake pads and tires at the track and switch back to street versions afterwards. nothing dumb about that.. |

what ? do you think this is america? WRONG. This is zilvia, its communism at its best. Which means, shut your trap and dont ever... ever ever ever... EVER EVER EVER.. disagree with me, if you want to keep your account.. AND YOUR LIFE. Kognition, as stated in the first few fucking posts, already sells such a plug. That answers the question for the majority of tools NEEDING such a drastic weight reducing saver. Reality is though, that its a very minuscule saving that is not really worth much. Also, people have been doing motor swaps for GOD knows how many centuries. With hondas, they were doing motor swaps. Before that, they were doing motor swaps. Anyone who thinks swapping RBs and SRs is recently popular, is smoking crack. If anything, tuners have become a bit more extreme LATELY... but thats about it. The car tuning scene is NOT new.... |

We do still make the sunroof, i have been making updates for our website and have been behind in getting it finished. The sunroof is not something we sell alot of, because it was intended for track. And it is a simple and very tough panel.
Because we use the aircraft foam core, it is very light as a finished part (1.75 lb's fiberglass) and (1.5 lb's carbon fiber). Basically we have not had any demand to make this part for the S13. But it is just as simple to do as the S14 mold we have. Which is basically a built up oem glass part that we vacuum infuse the top and bottom panels from, then bond to the foam core. The S14 panel is $200 before S&H (about $20 by UPS). It is a small weight savings by about 20 or so lb's. But i found a much larger weight savings potential in the entire 65lb roof. Which is why we are cutting out the roof on the track car to drop in an 8lb replacement. It fits flush to the roof |
