I think I could probably go to the B.A.R. because they have answered a lot of questions about engine swaps for me in the past. I will call the BAR and see if they have such a service to give me a "permit" or "note" stating that the exhaust conforms to sound standards.

I know that when the BAR 'Bars" are a car with a legal engine swap, the will also add notes such as:

Exempt Note: Modified intake

Or something like that...

OKAY!!! I FOUND IT!!!

California: You can only go to the REF if you got a citation!

1. Get a Citation
2. Go to BAR/REF to do the Decible test
3. If (pass) Under 95dbs, you get a certificate
4. If (fail) Over 95dbs, you must repair or basically get a stock exhaust
*If pass, present Certificate to Court ~ You're clear~ just pay court fees
*If fail, you must return exhaust to OEM status + re-do the DBs test, once pass go to court pay court fees.

WOW. I wish you could just get it REF/BAR'd prior to all this.~

Can we make a list of which exhaust system passes or does not pass the 95DBs test on S13 and S14?

With KAE, KADE stock, KAT, SR, RB, etc.

Eh, its worth trying anyway. The ref at the place I went to told me that they'd do the testing without a ticket. Maybe they were just really cool. lol

their doing a gay crackdown on racers thats why it's so crazy.. i've heard some crazy stories here.. theres a road here where people street race, i've never gone, one of my friends went there, and there were 15 cops+ he said, and had about 20 guys on their hoods getting owned. LOL.. wow..

update:

came back from a nice drive with my brothers & a friend. was dropping off friend to get his evo at another guys house, pulled on the driveway, cop flys by down the street, spot light and puts the lights on me, while im parking on the driveway. tells me im not suppose to be driving my car blahblahblah, i honestly didn't know, its my only car to get to work, so i'm gonna continue driving it, just take back roads and stay off the main street till i finish up the ref. he followed me, he pasted the light and went straight while i was making a left LOL. what a total douche. i wanted to laugh , so then i was driving home, hoping he was waiting for my at the end of the street so he could harass me, then i'd tell him, i'm driving home? LOL!

I got a ref ticket on valetines day this year and i was pissed at first, btw my s13 has an rb25, he pulled me over for the turbo timer, its on the steering column. He popped my hood and cited me for intake exhaust and turbo timer (modified ignition/emissions on the ticket). I was dreading the day that i had to take it in but a few weeks later i receive a letter from the court it had a $550 fine on it. So i went to the courthouse and paid the ticket and that was that. PS dont be a dick it can always be worse

You know what this is starting to become harassment , ref for no apparent reason... there was already an open fix it ticket for the exhaust, rest of car is perfectly legal in the U S A I don't give a fuck what you pussies say if it's legal it's legal and know your rights or be a bitch and take it up the ass. the douche bag told me i can't drive my car because it has a ref ticket. i just got back from putting the gawd damn stock exhaust on, so im basically quiet ! STOCK. everything is stock now. besides the intake which is carb legal. now i just gotta set up and appointment with the ref and finish it all up. its my only car and my only way to get around, to get to work etc. anyone know?

If you havent fixed your ref ticket, any cop that runs your plates is going to see that your car should not be on the street and they will pull you over and tow your car. I would stop driving it unless your on your way to the ref station, even then they technically can tow your car so be carefull.

eh its a stockish car now its not loud or anything, im basically off their radars, if i had the exhaust on there still id be scared =X. what confuses me is, what if you only have one DD, and you have to work to pay to fix the ref, how are you going to get to work if you can't drive. it doesn't make sense.

Exhaust (cat back) has nothing to do with Emissions. So a stupid cop writes you a ticket for "emissions" for muffler or catback, you can still fight it. Since Emissions only deals with the CAT and O2 sensors and anything prior to the cat you're good. Exhaust = Sound decibles only.

I guess I wouldn't be suprised if I see the Ref after I install that catback.=?

Me: "Hi there, I have an aftermarket exhaust that I just bought and was thinking of installing it soon, is it possible for me to get a "certificate" or "permit" which says that the exhaust is sound legal and under the 95dbs requirement?"

Ref Lady: "Did you get a citation?"

Me: "No, I did not. I am trying not to get one and I would like to see if I could obtain a "certificate" of compliance with the Decible test so that if an officer pulls me over, I could avoid it."

Ref lady: "You cannot do the decible test at the referree unless you had a citation. You can go to muffler shops and they can do a Decible test."

Me: "Oh Okay, would you know if the certification from the muffler shop be legal or appropriate and the police will take it?"

Ref Lady: "He can still give you a ticket if he wants."

Me: "Oh, okay, well how much is the decible test at the referree"

Ref lady: "It's free if you got a citation."

Me: "Where can I find a location for the Ref?"

Ref lady: "It's all over california.

Me: "is there a website or how can I find them?"

Ref Lady: "We will appoint you a location when you get the citation."

Me: "Okay! THank you very much for your time."

yesterday while i was on the phone with the REF making an appointment, i was just looking around while talking to the REF, all of a sudden, a cop pulls around the corner from where i'm parked, i just STARE at them, and it was the girl bitch that ref'd me LOL. man i wanted to flip her off so bad. maybe next time. it almost seems as these fcukers are following me, cause one bastard actually followed me to a HOUSE? and put the lights on me while im parked on the driveway, wow these cops are idiots lol.

damn why do i keep seeing these bastards. lol. oh well, the end of the month is over, they'll disappear. wednesday ref day. court date i have no idea, going to fight it and leave it at that!

Some cop is always around in his neighborhood, all he does is pull in his driveway and close the gate, they cant do shit its private property, he just sat there and stared at us and left. Here is how LIFE WORKS guys and gals:

1. If you dress like a Gang Member, cops will think you're a gang member.
2. If you hang around with Gang Members, cops will think you're a gang member.

3. If you drive Japanese imports that look like the street racing cars of Fast and Furious, cops will think you're Fast and Furious.
4. If you have modified japanese car with loud exhaust, tinted windows, gauges, and STICKERS advertising Cusco, Falken, HKS, GREDDY, Garrett, etc, or any thing visually illegal, you're a street racer.

It is difficult for most cops to differentiate and they will not take chances. If they are not sure if you're a Ferocious Lion or a Cat from a distance, then will take precaution to make sure that you're not an illegal street racer or a Drifter. Can you blame cops for "your CHOICE" of the defiance of the written LAW and modification and implementation of illegal street use aftermarket parts?

Having the "certificate" is useless cause a cop can still give you an exhaust ticket even though you cleared it. Happened to me while I already had one exhaust ticket which I reffed but didn't get to the court date yet and CHP pulled me over but gave me a fix it ticket anyways even though I cleared it with the ref. The only thing the ref system is good for, like she said is to clear an existing citation and thats it. Down the line you can still get an exhaust ticket and go through the process all over again. Wonderful flaw in the system. And if someone has any documentation that there is a way to not get an exhaust ticket once you clear it please feel free to link it.

I guess if you show the papers and the exhaust is in the clear, he can always find something faulty with your car.

woke up at 830AM. with like 3 hours of sleep damn.

drove to the local community college in town, thats where the ref station was.

they filled out my papers and said theres no specs for my 95 nissan 240?

"comments: no rpm test specifications! voided! sent back to issueing agency!"

he signed it blahblahblah. he said usally they would just cancel the ticket, but the douche bags at the courthouse wanted me to pay the fee. LOL.
