What's up with kouki prices being crazy high?
Why have kouki prices went retardedly high over the past 2-5 months?!?! I remember last February I almost pulled the trigger on a 97se with a rb25 that was very nicely done, for 12k. Now on the Baltimore CL there is a 97le with a interior that's not very desirable (sivler-goldish with flake on trim) and a s14 sr.. 15750!!!! Yes DOLLARS. Just feel like I'm the only I one that is seeing this. I'm in jersey btw.

Supply and demand. Simple economics. If someone posts it high and it sells then prices get pushed high. If it's posted high and doesn't sell then as they continue to lower price prices should go down. There'sno fixed price to a 240 it all depends on how desperate someone is for money quick or how desperate someone is to get a clean one quick. Real koukis were rare to begin with.

They're on the tax return summer, bad time to buy cars timing. Plus a lot of new 240 people dont really know what 240s go for. They're preying on that group. I remember someone at our meet posted a junk box s13 for 7k. They arent really on the forums nor do they have a pulse on whats going on in our community or what stuff is selling for, thats what they felt it was worth even tho to me it was shit. Months later theyre still sitting on the car and will constantly lower it till it sells.

I also noticed they've been going higher in the Bay Area and Sacramento. Anywhere from 8-14k depending on condition and mods. Glad I picked mine up 5 years ago!

no whining... but you're crazy if you think a 97 le with a stock sr is worth 15,750 then I feel for your wallet.. because you my friend are getting ripped off. for that price I better see a fully built sr and a 350z tranny!

I know MA240sx forums does a good job of trolling local CL postings within a decent radius of the Baltimore / DC area pretty much all the time. -- Might want to try stopping by there to see if we've found anything decent lately.
S14a / Kouki prices have always been high, there were less than 3k of them that made it into the US total according to Wikipedia, so supply is quite tight when you figure that about half of those cars aren't on the road any more. Add in the fact that people seem to like the front end style on a 97-98 more than the much higher production zenki's, you get much higher prices. But to restate what others have said, its only worth what someone's willing to pay. If you don't feel the price is reasonable for what you're getting, then you don't have a deal. Never be afraid to walk away from a bad deal, see pawn-stars for examples of how to do it right.

you can take two identical cars both with SR motor swaps one is janky and the wiring is sloppy, the engine is in need of service and neglected then the other is perfect, OEM install, and well maintained you need to learn how to properly evaluate the value of something nevermind, you're from jersey |

I think that car is priced completely fair given how nice it is. I wouldn't sell my '98 for that price let alone list it for that. If you want a quality car for less money you should look at different models, IMO. Modded kouki s14s are few and far between in that nice of condition.
for $15k you can get a 600hp evo if that seems like more for your money.

Only 5833 original '97-'98 S14 240SX's were ever made. Think about that number for a minute.
Let's put this in perspective for you... RX7 FD... production count of 13879. MKIV Supra... production count of 11239.

I think there were around 1400 in 1998. I'm sure it says on the wikipedia. Funny enough a pic of my car (stock) is on the wiki.

$15k for a fully built S15 SR'd real Kouki S14? You think thats fucking expensive? You'd spend over $30k trying to replicate all that. Then throw in the fact that there is almost no Kouki S14 in the northeast.

Just cuz you're broke doesnt mean everybody else is. Doesnt mean the owner is either. Some people just got old for these cars and wants to move on to something better, more age appropriate.
