Nissan can't prevent GT-R markups at dealer level
Filed under: Car Buying, Coupes, Sports/GTs, Nissan
Despite floating a plan that would attempt to stop the inevitable customer speculation in the GT-R by voiding the car's warranty if it were sold in the first year, Nissan has come to the conclusion that they are, frankly, powerless to stop it. The company says it gave up on the plan because it wouldn't be fair to the guy who really had to sell his car within that time. The other folks who Nissan won't be able to stop from making a bundle by marking up the car are its own dealers, who, let's face it, are frothing at the mouth to have a GT-R on display in their showrooms. Honestly, after years of trying to push Maximas and Sentras, if you were lucky enough to get some GT-Rs to sell, wouldn't you add a little cream? For some new shoes for the kids? Especially since there will be only 1,500 sold the first year? But by law Nissan can't tell dealers what they should and shouldn't charge. Instead, it will "counsel them on why they shouldn't." And when the dealers are finished nodding sagely, everyone can expect them to start adding zeros. It's not all free beer, though: dealers certified to sell the GT-R will need to shell out on additional training for their mechanics, and will need to adjust the car's transmission and drive shafts every three years, for free. That's money they will probably recoup on the markup from just one car... [Source: Kicking Tires]Â* ReadÂ*|Â*Permalink | Email this | Comments More... |

Doesn't nissan just say you were racing the car and void warranty anyways.

I'm not upset at all about this.
We know pretty much anyone who owns a 2008 GTR will be of toolish nature anyhow. The new M3 is awesome............ |

same BS they did when the 350Z was first released.
Main Driveshaft off the engine is set at zero and the Trany is in the Rear, Second shaft goes to the Front Diff, both will be Carbon Fiber... this is a new set-up so I can see how this may have issues at first. (MotorTrend, Dec. issue) -Drew |

I agree, I have pretty much accepted the fact that I would get my Porshe GT2 before I get this car after I make my first Million after I get done with school.

bardabe - i agree. I had the rb25, inline 6, and loved it. I am just a fan of the inline 6 I guess.
They can mark it up, but for being 100g lets say, I rather get a porche, ferrari, etc. No offense to infinity, but hell, its still a NISSAN. I believe NISSAN Dealerships are just going to mark it up because they can. Some rich *** will come along and by it anyways. So either way it doesnt matter if its 65k, 73k, or 110k. Someone out there, with money or even not so much, will fork it out and buy it. Nissan Dealerships know this fact aswell, and marketing majors sure have a understanding that it will happen, someone will buy the GTR for 100k. For us though, or some, we have a better understanding on the GTR Legacy, and most of all, not rich asss fucks! IONO, I like the new GTR, I think its fast, great, and so forth. Yet, once they step that price tag to 80g+, my eyes stops from NISSAN to PORCHE. Shiet, if I can afford THE NEW GTR for that price tag of 80-100g, I will close my eyes, and work a bit more to get a PORCHE. Some will say, HA HA, my 80g car beat your 120g PORCHE, and I will say, ''ok, bye.... :::zooms off in a ferrari or porche::: |

i think its ironic that porsche has not been spelled correctly this entire thread, because I think you have to be able to spell Porsche in order to buy one, something about it maybe not though
its bad that I notice these things instead of start on homework, because if I dont, ill never afford one of these Nissins |

usually its the older knuckle heads who think they have the ultimate car (bone stock g35) claiming 400whp!!! too funny I think its safe to assume that the 08 GTR's sold will be sold to midlife crisis old golf farts who have NO clue what the GTR's heritage was! They think its a NEW car for Nissan, and not a car based on what actually made NISSAN's motorsports worldwide success. and for those who actually know and have the money and never use it to its potential, shame on you for just being a prick and BOOSTBLOCKING someone who will actually will use it to its potential. and for those that have the money and are avid faithful zombies to the NISMO club,. good on you for preventing some retard who hasn't a clue from buying one! enjoy it and don't wreck it! when it comes down to it, I can't afford one. If i win the lottery , Im buying a bunch just to prevent other ass-be-honkers from getting any . but for now...............I'll stick to my SR'd slider! |
