02 sensor question s13redtop in 95 s14

My attempts to search didn't really yield what I needed. I have an s13 redtop in my 95 s14. everything's operating fine, and has been for ~10k miles. Anyways, when i upgraded my exhaust, I went to a divorced 02 housing and since the bung was for the fat-type o2 sensor (not the skinny type red-top one), I went ahead and bought one a new fat-type blacktop o2 sensor. It plugged right into the harness and everything, and My ecu flashes 55. but I'm, always wondering if I somehow missed something, if I actually needed to find a way to make the red-top one work, or wire something differently to use the black top sensor. The car smells like it's running rich sometimes, and I remember my other sr20 getting better gas mileage than this one.

Thanks for all your advice,

Nick

just buy this:
DIF 10082 O2 Oxygen Sensor Adapter M18 x 1.5mm to M12 x 1.25mm

and connect your skinny o2 sensor back in

black top ecu-fat o2
red top ecu-skinny o2
