i ask because i see all these people with thier swaps and mods already done, and i don't really see that many impressive time slips .. i know 240s are heavy , but the KA or SR has a high TQ output.
if you were to build a LOW 14 sec car that is still a daily driver, with full interior and stuff.. would you need and how much would it cost? |

240SXs are light, I have no idea where you got the idea to the contrary.
A low 14 second timeslip is a nice attainable goal for a mildly modified SR, or a relatively low boost turbo KA. Think of the Honda S2000 - it weighs about as much as a loaded S14 and will run mid to low 14s with only 240hp. KA+T or SR torque means you don't have to drive it like you hate it to run those times, either <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''> |

I run high 14's with a very low psi KA-Turbo setup. And that is with an automatic transmission, and no launch (no brake launch, no neutral drop. Nothing.). I am 100% sure that if I had a 5-speed (soon... summer mabey) I will hit very low 14s. But then again... this summer I better have 300 hp and hitting much lower.

Just wondering since I don't know yet....
If you have 2 of the same cars : 1 with a SR20det and the other with KA24det which would be faster??? Same mods and everything, and same boost or whatever. sorry for the newb question, but the search was just too long =) |

It should be just about everywhere. There is a 95 240sx SE already saved on it, with all stats, and a manual tranny with the correct gear ratios. Then, put in a hp and torque figure (7psi sounds safe, cuz that is stock.) for the sr motor, take off 20 pounds for the weight difference and run it. Then make a KA turbo. Grab the dyno chart off f-max or xsengineering or nsport. One site has it. Put the info into it, cuz that is a 7 psi kit. Run them. KA will win. -Jeff

If a t25 or t28 is operating at an efficient level and a t3/4 is operating at an efficient level, both in a low to moderate (6-10 psi) setting, there won't be that large a difference as you make it sound. There shouldn't be a difference at all... but for arguments sake... it would be very small. -Jeff

What if the SR had the turbo upgrade??? Would the KA still win? Or the SR would win because of the higher redline?</td></tr></table><span id='postcolor'> Basically, torque gets you thru the quarter mile, and horsepower gets your top speed. Turbo sizing... as long as it's in the efficiency band of the turbine... shouldn't really matter. Once you get out of the efficiency, then you blow hot air, and it really matters. That is why sr motors need a new turbo at 15psi or so. That is just out of the efficiency range for a t2x. -Jeff

Myself and UUNinja didn't race but just a "spirited acceleration" and he whooped my ass and he is on a t3/t4 @ 10psi and I have a t25 @ 13psi. Just to let you in on some real world experiences.
Note: when this happened I wasn't driving (the wife was) so I am assuming that she hit it full throttle

I'm not a drag racer myself, but I use 1/4 mile times to gauge acceleration because: * It measures acceleration from a standing start *and* at speed together, whereas 0-60 only measures a standing start. * $10-$20 pays for a full night of accurately timed dragstrip runs. 0-60 can be done for free on the street, but not accurately. Dyno testing is very accurate but costs $50+. * The experience of going to the dragstrip, BSing with riceboys, and seeing insane drag cars - it's fun! |

if you're looking just hit to hit 14's... i'd say nitrous. a 75 shot on average brings around 65-75ish whp, along will anywhere from 100 to 130 ft/lb tq. add a header, intake, lightened pulleys, clutch/flywheel combo... and you' be in there like swimwear.

i would thiink that a 240 with a ka24de running well with welded spider gears, custom intake, good exhaust, cams, gutted, could hit 14s

i went [email protected] with a redtop SR, with only an intake filter, clutch, and exhaust, and a VLSD. stock SMIC, stock fuel, no tuning. and cheapo dobbs all weather tires. on my 13.6 i cut a 1.9 60', and i consistently run 13.9's. with a FMIC and drag radials and tuning i should be almost into the 12's. pretty easy. oh ,and about the weight, i put my car on a scale last weekend, and it weighed 2980 with me in it(i weigh 150lbs), a half tank of gas, and my sub and spare. and random shit. just FYI.
