Nissan cracks down on illegal GT-R imports
Filed under: Euro, Nissan, UK
Grey market vehicles often walk a fine line when it comes to their legality. However, that hasn't deterred some enthusiasts from snatching up a desirable vehicle from one market and moving it to another. These tactics hurt both the auto manufacturer and its dealer network, since grey market vehicles have no warranty coverage. Most automobile companies greatly dislike grey market importation since it increases competition for their own domestic product. They typically utilize every legal resource availabe to them (and they have plenty) to discourage the practice. You can see where this is going by now. Since the Nissan GT-R is now on sale in Japan, there are some very impatient folks who do not want to wait for the car to hit their local showroom floors. Businesses in Europe and the UK are currently advertising imported JDM Nissan GT-Rs for sale. Nissan has issued a message that they intend to crack down on these businesses as this venture is a violation of trademark rights. It seems that some have already received paperwork from Nissan's lawyers. The automaker also wants to inform customers in the European Economic Area (EEA) that they have not consented to the sale of the GT-R by these individuals. JDM GT-Rs may not meet safety and emissions standards outside of Japan, so Nissan must detach themselves from any responsibility in case of uneducated buyers. Hit the jump to view the full press release. [Source: Nissan]Continue reading Nissan cracks down on illegal GT-R imports Â* Permalink | Email this | Comments More... |

If you're already baller enough to straight up buy a GTR cash, not having a warranty is really not that big of a deal.

Exactly, people with that kind of money don't care about warranties and legality. Just throw money around until you get what you want. Must be nice.

alot of people will buy a supercar with SAFETY on the mind. .. .thats pathetic not too, the only reason they MIGHT not, is because they figured the company already covered most of those problems. Now, I see that this may not come up first, but then who thinks about what type of tires it might come on first, very few. probably including yourself, to busy looking at whats under the hood knowing that if you follow market trends, most of us here already knew what the next GT/R was. period. take a good look at what the safety standards are over cars toping 320Kmh/ 180mph. .. . & yes, a warranty of anything is worth its weight in gold. dough or if w/o 1, no dough! B/S when people knock a product they produce, they wanna sale it as it is, 4 certain circumstances, I can understand. but products that are considerably produced, a warranty, not so much, but replacements are definately there, higher quality products, mos' definate. this GT/R & such alike: warrantied probably on most parts below the seat plate & service =( performance luxury, better get the mechanical manual when it debuts!

if they were baller why wouldn't they just fly to japan, buy one there, and ship it back to their home country. Better yet, fly to japan, buy a yacht and GT-R and ship it back yourself in true baller fashion.

im thinking - they dont want foreign auto manufactures to get thier hands on one so they could start developing a rival.
or maybe it would help cut down on potential theft in japan from companies who export.

One only needs to read CAR, topgear, or EVO to see the back ad pages full of grey market companies. Even the current issue of evo w/ the GTR on it mentions both limited legitimate imported and grey market R34 GT-R as a cult car. specifically the car needs to be modified to UK spec, adding certain lighting features (rear fog light mainly), specific stickers for Ministry of Transportation MOT, and proper radio stations.

true, there fast as all hell, or suppost to be. if a ballers got the money he would prob hire someone to go to japan pick one up and ship it back to them. a tiny ass warrenty isnt going to stop them, they will just have it fixed at nissan or somewhere in 2 seconds

If Im spending $5 or $80K I want a warrenty. Baller or not. How do you think the smart ballers keep their money? Some may have the luxury of just tossing money around and more power to them. Not me though. If I won $250,000,000 tomorrow I would not be so frivalous with my money. I'd buy the baller stuff but damn sure if my Vanquish breaks someones coming to my house to do warrenty service lol

That's the first i heard of it. If it's like that they might as well go after anyone who owns a JDM nissan regardless if it's a gtr or not hell why stop at r35 owners why not RNN14,S15,S14,S13, and All Skylines hell even. Or How about Z33(fairlady's) and Infiniti should go after M45(fuga) and G35(skyline) owners too for having a grey Market "infiniti" complete bs either way the parent company is going to get their money since someone eles has already bought their brand of car
