madman's sc400 pro-am build

Well this build happened off an impulse buy. I've always liked the way the sc300/400 chassis looked but they were always stupid expensive and out of my price range. Then one day I made a rant on fb about the price of these cars even with blown up motors or crazy body damage. Turns out a friend of mine knew a guy selling one cheap and put us in touch a few text messages later I sent my dad money to pay for the car and fuels and lunch for him and my uncle to go pick it up since I just started my new job in the oilfield at the time and didn't know when I was gonna have a day off and didn't want this deal to slip through my hands.
$400 later this is sitting at our house waiting for me to decide what I was gonna do with it (march 2013)

well after a few months of planning and and getting my financial situation stable I starting ordering parts to get the ball rolling. (September 2013)
after a few emails back and fourth I hooked up with Neo-motorsports for my suspension and braking needs

then I decided I was gonna drop a 1jz into it since it bolts right in. well I found a cheap auto swap in corpus picked it up dropped it off at our shop. Then I was on the hunt for a r154 well during my searchs I came across a decently priced soarer front clip with an r154. so I sold my other motorset to a friend. and purchased the front clip (oct 2013)
Then after talking to bigsticks about ecu's I purchased a pro efi pro 48 ecu and all the sensors I needed from the guys at D3 performance (nov 2013)

Then came the turbo side with so many options. I decided to go with the driftmotion billet 6262 turbo kit. mainly because it came with every thing I needed to go single turbo and wasn't crazy expensive and had a lot of good reviews. (dec. 2013)

then my niece decided that she wanted to model with it

Onto the fuel system. I purchased a fuel injector clinic fuel rail and 1050cc injectors. Turns out the injectors were discontinued so they upgraded me to 1120's since they were the same price.
(jan. 2014)

During this whole time frame I was purchasing all the little stuff I could for the motor todo maintenance and small upgrades. I bought all brand new oem timing belt tensioner, idler pulley, front and rear main seals, water pump, oil pump (just to be safe), greddy timing belt, thermal intake manifold gaskets, nst pulleys, fluidamper

finally the front clip arrived from japan and we get to work getting the motor ready to go in the car (jan. 2014)

As far as the chassis goes went sent the car to silhouette garage to get a fd legal cage, gussets and all that good stuff (oct. 2013)

Started trimming down the wiring harness to the bare min.
Deleted the abs system, cleaned and painted the engine bay

Finally my sparco evo 3 arrived so we could build a steering column to get rid of the broken and heavy factory column. Then we installed the coilovers (jan. 2014)

Finally we got the motor as close as we could to being ready to drop in. sent it to my friend ken (aka the jz guru of Houston) had him do some minor things to the motor. Had him clean up my stock harness aswell as rewire it to work on the pro efi. Went ahead and had him install the motor and trans since I had very few days off from work todo it myself (oilfield life) (feb. - march 2014)

got every thing back then we started to build up the fuel system since we plan on going e85

Then we decide to change from a front mount setup to a mid-mount intercooler to try to hide the intercooler from cones and objects that may end up on course

now that the engine bay is as far as we can go until I order more parts. We moved on to finishing the chassis harness and installing and wiring up the gauges.
My dad made the metal dash inserts to cover the old ac vents etc..

then we painted the dash to match the rest of the interior

Cant have a racecar without switch panels and a radio

Then we repurposed the stock gauge cluster to hold the new gauges

Testing the new gauges

Then we teamed up with battle version for all my suspension needs. glad to have them onboard with all there amazing products

there will be more updates as we take my spare subframe strip it down and clean it up and install all theses bushing and arms

Started working on the trunk setup. still got a few things to work out before we start running fuel lines and mounting the surge tank and secondary fuel pump and filter. nitrous bottle was just for pics but were considering doing a intercooler spray bar depending on intake air temps.

Here's how the engine bay currently sits .

And for anyone wondering were the color scheme is coming from. I'm kinda coping my dad and uncles old drag car. I always loved the paint job. I'm currently working on getting a friend to vinyl wrap the car to match there old paintjob.

Well after starting to loose motivation in this build. I decided to goto fd tx this past weekend hoping it would respark my motivation to get the car finished. Well it worked i got home Sunday and started tearing out the stock fuel lines and getting the an lines ran as usual we ran into a couple of small issues with having a couple wrong fittings.

Pics to come once we get everything strapped up

North side tomball/magnolia area . Im over building the car should be able to put down close to 550+ but Im only shooting for 450-475whp reliably. Yeah I was complaining about $2500 cars with blown head gaskets or body damage. When he said he knew a guy with one that had blown hg and a bad transmission for $250 I jumped cause I knew I wanted togo jz.

well we finally got the fuel lines in the engine bay finished just gotta run a vacuum line to the fpr

now onto the trunk to get everything mocked up so we can cut the excess line. now we just gotta finish welded in the fuel cell mounts in since all we had was a cheap flux core welder to get everything tacked up. once the bars are welded its time to paint the trunk then final assembly gets started

Then instead of just using basic rubber line and hose clamps for the power steering system I decided to go overboard and make everything an braided line and fittings

Well I was about to order my drive shaft and a bunch of lil stuff I need but my friend made me an offer I couldn't refuse on his 350z shell. So this past weekend I loaded up and headed to baton rouge Louisiana to pick it up. its gonna be a future build but for now its just gonna get cleaned up and covered till im ready

Well the z is my daily and I just got it payed off. Didn't wanna keep trashing it too much.

But the main reason for building the sc over the z is the cost to make power out of the vq since its my daily I cant have it down for long periods of time.
