Yeah, it didn't really sound right did it. It didn't rev that high though (I think) maybe it will sound better in real life, on track.

Almost positive this is a step beyond turbocharging...it's called 'turbocompounding'.
Not quite the same as a compound turbo setup that you see on diesel tractors, this one has some sort of mechanical connection to the crankshaft. It's nuts. http://www.f1-forecast.com/pdf/F1-Fi...ompounding.pdf

OMG that is a tech orgasm...

It would be nice if Toyota used this engine layout to resurrect the MR2. Can't wait for this tech to trickle down. Edit: Dear god... look at the size of that intercooler... |

sadly we will never see that era again until paddle shifters get banned and go back to clutch and stickshift (which I would love to see). and F1 is a near spec class , everyone has to run similar stuff unlike back in the day there would be turbos vs NA, v8s vs v12s etc

at first I thought there was no intercooler until I saw the bottom pic
that is a work of art though. I like the dual exhaust inlets on the turbocharger. Should not only help with spooling up but also would cause less wear. |

Can't wait for all the "F1 is dead to the world now" comments.
Doesn't sound as cool, but I'm sure they will perform just fine. And if you're watching F1 JUST for the noise, you're missing the point. |

Tire degradation has really taken a lot of my enjoyment out of F1. I hate it for the drivers, mostly.
