Redtop Squeal

Hi Zilvia members, I'm in a bit of a desprate situation at the moment. I have an 89 Hatch with a Redtop SR. I've had the car for a bit over a year. It never gave me any problems other then an oil leak coming from the oil pump cover right where the cover meets the head. Basically I been topping the car off every 2-3 days and never going WOT. I was planning on fixing the leak after Feb 26 because my wife is dew to have our second daughter after this upcoming weekend and needed the car to be running just incase of an emergency.

Last Friday I woke up to take our 8 year old to school and noticed a loud squealing sound coming from the engine (kinda like a squealing shopping cart wheel). I figured it was a loose belt and just let the car heat up a bit. The noise was still there so I figured I could tighten the belt when I got back. I pulled out, went into third gear and the squel was still there. I got to the light one block away and dropped it into neutral and the rpms shot down to 400-500 and wanted to shut off but quickly went back up. I got to the next corner and the car did the samething. I figured this must be a much bigger problem because last time I checked loose belts don't cause your car to want to shut off when dropped into neutral. I parked the car and shut it off. I opened the hood and touched the belts and none felt loose. I turned the car back on and to my suprise the nosie was gone. I drove my daughter to school and went back home with no further problems. Later that day I tried checking the belts for slack and they were fine so I figured maybe this was a fluke and started the car to pick something up for the wife at the store. As soon as I turned the key I heard the loud squeal again, I popped the hood and it didn't sound like it was coming from the belts but more inside the Head. So at that point I went to drive the car around the block. As soon as I pulled out of the driveway and went into neutral the car shut off. I started the car again and took the car back home. I have yet to work on the car because the landlord is very strick about heavy work being done to cars on the property. She will be going out of town this week so I should have a window to fix whatever problem the SR may have.

My Question is what in the world could this noise be. I do understand that there are tons of things that can go wrong inside an engine. I just want to have an idea of what to look at first. I been searching for countless hours since the day it happened and the closest I have been able to find is this on youtube :YouTube - Loud tick + squeak from engine

Ignore the knock sound he has, it's the squealing at the end that my car has. I'm sorry for the extremely long post but I'm trying to be as detailed as possible as I will have a short window to work on fixing this problem. I hoping that someone on here has had this sound coming from their SR's Head and can shed some light on this for me. Thank you in advance for any helpful info.

If its comming from the top of the head then your oil pump is dead or oil pressure is really low.

Your not getting oil to the cams so its metal on metal.

get an oil gauge to verify the oil pressure
