Failed Smog.

I have a 91 240sx.
I failed my smog inspection due to two things. My Check Engine Light went on during the test due to code 32 which deals with the EGR system. The other thing was my Ignition timing which was at 10 BTDC. the smog technician explained to me that once I fix my Ignition timing, my Emission wouldn't pass,
@15mph I had 771 and the max was at 799. He told me if i fixed my timing, it would rise higher than the maximum. I really don't want to take it to a shop because I'm broke. Is there anything I could personally do myself? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Oh and sorry if I placed this in the wrong place.

thanks.

You can search for the answers, that's one thing. There are a TON of "omg if failed smog" threads.

or just check ur egr system make sure all the rubber hoses are connected and arent deteriorated and make sure your egr is functional and since it just threw a code check and see if the egr opens when u give it throttle.

i dont suggest doing anything illegal =)

Take out your cel bulb and they wont know anything is wrong with your egr. Or you can try re setting your ecu or going up there with a spare to throw in that is already cleared and hope the light dont kick on before your done.

Also, I have never heard of them checking your base timing! I would tell him its none of his damn business how advanced my timing is.
