I took a few pics of this car in 2011. I didn't realize there was a build thread.

Well i ended up blowing a head gasket or both, don't know but at least one is definitely done. Started pulling the motor tonight. Next thursday will be 4 years to the day that this car has ran with no problems. So i can't ask for more than that.

I figured i would take it out and remove the heads, replace the head gaskets, put some arp head studs and install the built heads with cams I've had sitting on the shelf for a few years.

However I'm starting to have my doubts about this, i think I'm just getting to old for this crap and I'm contemplating sell the whole vh45 setup and buying an lsx crate motor and drop it in with that sick t56 i have sitting in my garage.

I really don't know what to do at this point other than keep removing the engine.

some cool pics i snapped.

Blown VH gots ta Stay!

I'm the biggest LSX proponent out there, and I say hell no. Your combo is just too unique. And 4 years with stock head gasket and bolts and compression with boost! With all the beating you do on it?! You're not going to get anybetter out of an LSX. From all the plumbing, to the blower, to the intake, this thing is the real deal hot rod heaven. Don't change a thing. Swap in the new heads with the arp bolts, only this time actually measure your compression height, and custom order an MLS gasket to give you NO MORE than 0.037" inch clearance cold from the piston top to heads. You'll pick up a little detonation resistance and some more reliability.

I thought you were going to throw some forged internals in it and up the boost with those fresh heads? Keep on keeping on with the VH. I think there is still room for improvement in that motor.

Well finally got the motor out tonight. Didn't do anything yesterday and went to the football game today, got around to it around 6pm took about 3.5 hrs to pull the rest.

Tear down begins tomorrow.

Ive never had the motor out of the car with the supercharger and intake all bolted up being as that all of those mods where done with the motor in the car so heres some pics from different angles.

Its a big Bitch for sure.

I've been debating this swap for some time now, but after seeing the nutty shit you've done with your setup i'm definitely on board now! I love the innovation and risks you've taken with the vh. Keep all the good shit comin.

so put the motor off to the side and started the tear down. Decided to do a compression check before i pulled it apart out of curiosity.

Cylinders
1. 205
2. 215
3. 200
4. 200
5. 200
6. 195
7. 200
8. 205

Stock is supposed to be 185 psi warm and i measured cold so either i picked up compression or more than likely the tester is slightly off , i also measured dry without pouring oil in the cylinders, in either case rings look good. Although I'm contemplating a complete and rebuild as i was just planning on changing the head gaskets.

Popped off the valve covers and this motor is still as clean as the day i bought it. It has roughly 126,000 miles as of now.

Cleaned up the valve covers and dropped them off at the coaters I'm done with wrinkle black, I'm thinking silver or something crazy.

That would be an awesome setup if you can produce increasing power at those rpm's. it is all about how long you can live with it down. Since winter is fast approaching I would say now is the time.

For the valve covers I would keep it classy whatever you decide.

well with the cams, i was told it should make power to 8,000 so well see.

For the valve covers I'm probably gonna go with metallic silver.

Well they run vortech v2s past 9000rpm in s2000s.

On my application with a 6.5 crank pulley and a 4.0 inch upper on the charger it will be spinning the supercharger at 46,800 rpms at 8,000 rpm engine speed and that combo was pushing 8-8.5 psi at 7200 rpm in the current setup, in theory at 8000rpm it should push 9-9.5 psi, again in theory as rpms go up the charger produces more boost as long as the volumetric efficiency of the motor doesn't surpass the flow of the charger.

The V2 si trim redline is 52000 rpm.

So again in theory i should be able to go down two sizes to 3.6 inch on the blower while hitting the blowers 52,000 rpm redline. Every size is about 1.5 psi more, giving me anywhere between 12-14 psi at 8,000 rpm for hopeful somewhere around 600hp.

Of course i know plenty of mustang guys that spin these things way past 52,000 rpm, some even into the 65,000 rpm range but they start to have issues after a while.

so i got one cylinder head off.

As i removed the bolts in sequence and stages of course i came to one that was just not as tight as the rest. And i though hmm thats not right. I mean it wasn't loose by any means using a breaker bar they all required a pretty good tug, except for the one above cylinder 4 on the top it was just a little looser.

Anyway pulled the head and this is what i found.

Piston number 4 seems a little cleaner than the rest, towards the top near that bolt, and I'm wondering if this may have been the culprit. Compression on that cylinder was good of course.
Heres a closer pic.

Cylinder walls look great for 126,000 miles.

Why's your V8 have so many valve reliefs?

Lol so weird seeing OHV V8's. Anyway, walls look great, pistons look great. Slap it back together with the new heads man, enjoy it some more, use that bottom end money to buy something cooler (or save it for when something big does happen). You're not boosting enough to need to re-ring, you don't really need forged slugs in it, that little S-trim is perfect for that engine.

Jordan i wonder the same thing my self. I might just do the bearings and some rod bolts, I'm just worried about spinning a rod bearing a month after i put it back lol.

I think it maybe an anomaly for the clean cylinder i just pulled the other head and they are all like that on the other side.

It's clean because water will steam the cylinder releasing any carbon build up. Get the injectors cleaned. It was together to long to just pop. Something happened

The injectors where brand new Siemens 630cc top feeds. It was running fine. 11.2-1 under boost.
