specific rim width question (9" or 9.5")
im in the process of doing an ls1 swap, and i currently have 2 whole sets of phase2 elites (17x9 +15) to drift on for my s13.
i am about to purchase some more 4 lug rims, and have the option of ordering some 9" or 9.5" with the same offset of +12 since i am gonna be running about 150 more HP with my ls1 setup than i had with my rb25, i plan on running 245-255 on the rear. but i drift on dumpster tires, and usually dont have much of a choice. now, im not a fitment whore, my car sits decently low, and my fenders are rolled pretty far with my elites, but i dont think ive ever had anything wider than a 245 in the rear. i run about -1 degree of camber to lengthen the life of tires and grip. QUESTION: would it be better to get a 9.5" wheel so the wider tires i put on there will be stretched and fit better into a stock rear fenderwell, or just go ahead and get some more 17x9's and just roll the fenders some more to get a 255 or even a 265 on there. either way, i know i will have to roll the fenders more for wider tires. i dont want to run any more camber, its set-up exactly how i want it. i also dont want to go widebody at all. i run tires in the rear with a 50 for a sidewall a lot as well, just because i get what i can find.

18 x 9.5 + 12
on 235/40 will net you this >> requiring a mild roll with no pull. i dont think its wise to go too much wider with the tire. you can use rimtuck to look at setups, or the maximum tire / stretch thread to view different sizes. |

how much camber are you running? like i said, im almost zero'd out.
maybe i should just go for the 9.5 and add a little camber. i just want as much tire touching the ground as possible with my ls1 and hate the idea of going widebody. maybe i can roll the fenders some more....

I'm currently in battle with this issue and wanting to run less camber as possible for more traction for the LS1. I got more options as far as wheels go because i got 5 lug and my rear's are currently 17x10+18 and that whole thing will tuck with 255/40/17 on it, but i also got -3.5 camber in rear[do not want!]
i was thinking of doing 18x9.5+15 would do the track and put 255/40/18's on it.

ok, so you got something that wide to tuck on an s13? no widebody? how rolled are your fenders?
i plan on rolling mine as much as i can with a heat gun. ruining paint isnt an issue either. so you say go ahead and get the 9.5"?

oh, sorry, the 10J is on my S14. and i roll fenders as a side job and the widest I had on my S13 in rear is 17x9+23 with 245/45/17's. it fit like a glove in the rear.

so looks like i will have to get 17x9's then. oh well. with -1* of camber running something bigger than a 245 wont matter much anyway
