[rallyx] is this getting popular or what? lol

Hehe, i was coming here to post about MY first rallyX event, and i c a post about it at the very top lol. I started looking into this in the summer, and nobody was mentioning it, and then suddenly everybody jumped in hehe (240racer being the first one i heard of with his AWD celica).

Anyways, back to the point of my post Today was my first rallyX event... which was a SHITLOAD of fun. Unofortunately i didnt get to run as many times as we were supposed to, due to the rainy conditions, but that rain made the runs we had very very awesome I didnt race the 240sx, but still raced a nissan car which was my friend's 97 sentra. I don't know the results yet, but from talking to other racers, i did about 15 seconds better than a race prepped 89 escort and about 25 seconds better than a first gen rx7... and 2 minuted better than a 94 dodge stratus hehe.

Here is a crappy vid my friend took from inside the car of a part of the course. Sorry, no pics, as the camera batteries died on me and this is the only worthwhile thing i got

Cant wait till next year when they reopen the track. Planning to come back next year with a fully prepped escort. I lucked out on the fact that my friend crashed his 5spd escort into a curb and the tranny in my auto escort is going out. Neither of the cars are worth rebuilding (auto tranny - $350, fixing his curb damage - $400) to us, so i'm buying the escort off of him and swapping the suspension from my escort on his car. That way i'll have a running 5spd escort and a nice parts car for when things go wrong

Yeah, autoX season is over and all the sudden racing around in a field has an allure it didn't before

Looks like you had fun, I drove my friend's SpecV during fun runs:

But I must say that the 240 is 5 times more fun out there. Which really sucks, because now I am hesitant to get a nice suspension for autoX.

lol.... that's what oversized M+S tires are for. Lifts the car another inch of the ground and provides some cushin

Heh, we didnt go off course, but it was kinda hard to keep the car on the road. Basicly, i never really had control of it at any point during the last run. The direction the tires were turned in only identified the direction of oversteer, thats pretty much as far as control went On the uphill sections, the cars were pretty much as slow as a person walking. I'm still surprised we never got stuck at any point in the race, unlike some other cars. Actually, i think the subarus were getting stuck more often then the 2wd cars which was rather weird.

And about that raising thing.... i was actually thinking about it. So suppose i get 1" lowering springs, and wheels that are 2" more in diameter. Does that do anything for performance? In a sense all i'm doing is raising the hubs.... well and stiffening the springs.

Well the springs would have to be quite stiff, because even my 205/60/15 all seasons tore off the inner fenders. I am sure if you get something severely oversized with aggressive tread, it might start chewing into your real fenders. I guess it all depends on how bumpy the course is and how much the springs will give.

That looks like so much fun!!! As soon as I graduate, I wanna move to Maine and hopefully get a good enough job to buy a old farm in the middle of no where and a AWD subaru of some kind and have my own private race course to screw around in, espcially in the winter
