And it's done.
Yesterday was a drift event held locally at Gateway Motorsports Park. My painter delivered the car to the track right at the lunch break of the day. I bled the rear brakes, swapped spark plugs and proceeded to drive the rest of the afternoon.



I will be sure to leave a full update when I have more time. I'll include more pictures/video from the event as they are posted.

Thank you to all that made this possible. Especially to Charlie Quatmann and company for all the body work you put into this thing.

BTW. The color is OEM BMW TechnoViolet from the E36 M3.

Here's a bit more of an update:

While the car was at paint from May-July, I stock piled parts.


Bought a set of rears to match the fronts.

Also, Tein Inner/Outer Tie Rods, OEM Ball Joints, Energy LCA Bushings, SPL Tension Rods. Last Thursday, I drove down to where the car was being painted, ~100 miles away; installed the HKS DLI and looked over the car. The new color had not been sprayed.

After a few nights of hardly any sleep, Charlie Quatmann, the painter, finished the car just in time for a local drift event here in St. Louis. At the lunch break of the event, he delivered the car to the track. It was the first time I'd seen the new color as well as everyone else. Total surprise as only a few friends knew what color I was actually painting it.

The car did phenomenal. I was breaking up under boost a bit, so we re-gapped the plugs and BAM, it ran it's ass off. Surprisingly as I hadn't seen the car for almost 2 months. The hood did have to come off as the heat from the turbo and fiberglass vent weren't getting along. I'll add some spacers or heat shield accordingly.

So very excited to be back into hitting events! I'm working on getting a safety inspection again for street driving. In the next week or so, I'll be installing all the DriftWorks goodies; I'll be sure to keep everyone updated.

Also, Jeff Le is planning on doing a full photoshoot on the car as well. Much much more to come!

this is an awesome guide and build.
go through your harness and get rid of that diagnostic port and the rest of the un-needed junk, would look much cleaner.

Here's a video from my GoPro of 2 consecutive runs.
Went to an event in Topeka, KS on Saturday. Middle of 4th gear entry, and mostly 3rd gear the rest of the way.

The Driftworks knuckles and the new alignment for more grip were only incredible! I only have the front knuckles on because my PBM coils wouldn't raise high enough to use the rears.

I'm not sure of the exact paint code. But it's Technoviolet Purple from a 1996+ BMW E36 M3.

Here are some more photos of the event last weekend in Topeka, KS.




Most of the St. Louis guys and my best friends.
The four door E36 is LS6 powered, and the M3 Coupe is 1JZ powered.

More bad news for the S14, however. The fuel tank developed a leak after parking it in the garage after the event. I was going to just replace the stock unit, but decided to splurge and finally go to a fuel cell.

I'll provide an update as to the installation and completion of the fuel system.

Alex, were you running RT 615k's on the front for the event? If so, how do you like them?

I am between them and Dunlop Z1 star specs for when (if) my new wheels ever get here...

If you get a hold of MAX they can sell you longer rear dampers for not much $. That's what I had to do with my rear knuckles!

I had no idea they sold such a thing. Do you know if the rear dampers are long enough to also account for the raised subframe from their risers?

The risers don't actually affect your ride height. All the risers do is change the angle of your arms (for the better). Here is the conversation between MAX and I:

Me: I have a dilemma. I have driftworks knuckles front and rear on my s14 with your coilovers. I am out of adjustment in the rear and its too low. I mean un-drivable low lol! The front is fine. Is there any way you have longer rear lower mount that would fit? It would only have to be a few inches.

MAX: I have a damper here that is 13 inches (black part) 4.25 inches of stroke, (chrome part) 20 inches overall length.

You do not need a longer damper for SFR - it is raising the other side (subframe side) of the arms/rods not the coilover (knuckle) mount side

Edit: I realized how dumb my comment was about the subframe risers after I posted it xD.

I spoke with MAX yesterday as well. They are looking into making me longer dampers, approximately 50mm to be exact. I will post my results. If they are ~$100-120/side, I'll oblige.

Update!

Fuel System Overhaul

After the Kansas event on August 18th, I brought the car home and parked it in the garage. The next day, I noticed this...



An hour later, the subframe and fuel tank are out.

The new Aeromotive fuel cell.
- 15 Gallons
- Internal baffles
- In-Tank Aeromotive A1000 fuel pump.
- 700 glph, 1,000hp supported

Loaded everything up and towed the car to my fabricator for the fuel cell mounting.

Plasma cutter later, the floors out. Then we started building the skeleton to house the tank.

A new floor, tacked, then seam sealed.

Installed, in the process of fabricating the roll-over straps...

All finished and wired!
The fuel pump is LOUD.

I spent the extra money on this fuel cell to have peace of mind. I always wanted adaptability. If I were to switch to E85 later down the road, the fuel cell/tank/fittings are all adaptable. Especially since the outlet from the tank is a -10 AN.

We finished everything on Friday evening about midnight. Filled the tank with 5 gallons, then drove to a gas station. After brimming the tank, one of the fittings failed and fuel spewed...So, we made the 20 minute drive home, grabbed my trailer, and loaded the car up. 4 am comes around and I finally get home.

On Saturday, I ran to a local speed shop, grabbed another fitting and everything worked perfectly with no leaks!

I am very happy with how everything turned out. We have Import Face off on September 23 locally at Gateway Motorsports Park.

So long for now! I'm sure there are more changes to come!

Also, Powered by Max is looking into making me longer dampers. Then I'll be able to install my rear Driftworks Geomasters.

Another event update/photo update on the car.

A while ago, a very good buddy of mine Jeff Le did a photoshoot on the car.

Anyways, a few weekends ago, we had Import Faceoff at Gateway. I made a couple small alignment adjustments and gained even more angle from the Geomasters. They are AMAZING.

This is my particular favorite. That's Omar driving his 302 powered S13. He's the owner of Nocturnal Motorworks/JDMHookup in St. Louis; such a tremendous fabricator.

Tomorrow morning we have a private day at Gateway Motorsport Park on the road course; myself and about 15 other drivers for the entire day. It has been about two years since I've driven there. Last event, I had my stock SR and had to drive with my foot to the floor for the whole course. I'm extremely excited to drive the car on the course with all the changes/grip.

More updates to come as I continually change the car!

I just read through your first build with the 1jz and now this thread. I am fully amazed on what you have done since I am currently thinking about power. However, the only issue I have before a power plant is a need of a second car.

I am definitely subscribed to this since your s14 is badass!
