ISIS RS3871 install thread
To begin my old turbo was starting to fail spitting out quite a bit of oil in the hot pipe. I bought a new one recently, and sunday me and 2 buddies started taking it all apart!
I got the ISIS rs3871 plan to be running around 18-20psi of boost. heres some pics of the install New turbo with mocked up intake elbow, 3in intake is so tight! stock turbo as it sits Here is empty engine bay, cleaned up the exhaust mounting surfaces on both the head and manifold. last 2 pics are after install was pretty much complete. Here is my ghetto ram air haha, Only way i could get it to hook up with what little 3" intercool pipes i had. i need to get my car down to my fabber sometime this week to get the hard pipes redone so i can fit my intake inside my hood. Car was running today, but one of the coolant lines wasnt fully tightened and is leaking coolant, gotta tighten that up. also need to rerun the 02 sensor signal wire to my ecu since i removed my stock 02, and plan to use the simulated narrowband from my Innovate lc1. Was a fun experience, first time changing turbos, took longer than expected(when does it not?) didnt have to much of problems fitting it in there. Just needed a little muscle and wiggles to get it in and out. More of my build is done now and i will report on performance soon, ill try to get to a dyno within a month or so to really compare to what my stock t28 put out.. i was at 300hp at 15psi before.. so hopefully this thing can make a bit more, without being to laggy thanks for reading!

Looks good! I got a few questions:
Did you use 14x1.5 coolant fittings for the turbo? and if so, do they require teflon tape? Also, when does the turbo spool? and what is the wastegate set at from the factory? Ive been told 8-10psi but no one knows for sure, even enjuku lol. Im throwing this on my KA in a few weeks |

hey man! i had stainless lines from my other turbo, so im unsure of fitting sizes. I did not use any teflon tape.
Havnt got the chance to run turbo yet, been to busy with work to finish up the little things i need to, to get it on the street. and i swapped the Wastegate actuator with my HKS one i bought. However the isis WGA is adjustable, so im sure you can get it to work.

Thanks. i bought some 14x1.5 banjo to 3/8 hose adapters from ATP turbo for my coolant lines. Going to grab coolant from the TB circuit. I understand that the WG is adjustable, i was just wondering what it is set at out of the box. ill be keeping an eye on this thread I really want to see how the turbo performs from people that actually have it and use it. |

OK Guys, Initial run. Primed turbo, Cranked engine 4 times for approx 15 secs with injectors disabled. Reconnected injectors, and she fired right up =)
Let her idle for a bit some of the smoke burnt off. Took it out, Stock ISIS waste gate Approx 12.5-13psi full boost around 3500. I have Freddy Intake mani and stock head. Now im gonna recheck all my connections and take it out crank it to about 18psi. Lets see how it holds up.

So after some work with my boost controller.. trying to reset it. Blew a coupler and had to pull off to fix.
But got it to boost 18psi no problem 3600ish came on hard(no homo) However this is on 91 oct and its running rich, like 10's. 850cc injectors are for my e85, i need to switch tunes back to really feel the power... We shall see. Prev dyno on s14 t28 with same mods was 298Hp. This thing was pushing 15psi, and about 12.0 a/f

Been driving for a few weeks now. Turbo pulls hard. I need a newer boost controller or soemthing. Mine is very slow to respond (HKS EVC III) i been over boosting hitting at least 20psi.. which is where my boost controller caps out. But its running rich in boost so i need a retune for sure

my t28 bb turbo went out on me so I'm looking in to the the isis sr20 replacement turbo...
From what you've posted so far, these isis turbo's don't seem too bad. *subscribed; I too would like to see some footage of the car pulling. |

So i Know its been a while since ive posted. Went out to the drag strip last night. SPeedworlds annual Midnight Run. Was hella busy only got 2 runs in for the 2 hours i was there. New personal best of 13.99 @ 105.00mph. 2.19 60' explains why i slipped first gear well off the line, but immediately lost traction once boost built. Missed second due to old beater tranny. Finally got into gear, and still at full boost the rear end breaks loose again. 3rd gear hooks good, and so does 4th. SO yeah turbo was great. spools great til i shift at 7k.
oh ya i busted my head open on the corner of my hatch, had blood coming down my face

Did you say your old setup was using a t28 and it made 300HP at 15psi? What supporting mods, cams? Correction factor on the dyno? T28's usually do not make that power without pushing them past 18psi so I'm curious how yours did. A basic bolt on sr20det with a 2871r makes around 300whp @ 15psi. Good write up. I looked into these turbos at one time. Interested in what it can do.

Trap speeds don't lie, but rear tires do.. If he couldn't catch traction, how do you expect the car to show it's full potential? Trap speeds are useful when you post an ideal run. Not when you spin all over the place and miss shifts.

Haha skeptics eh. I have 225 street tires in rear and partially bald. I was trying to find some Dr's but no luck. So my times suck ass.
ps my friend was also their with his turbo probe, rated at about 340 whp, he ran 12.8 @115 with drag radials, so it makes a huge difference being able to hook up.

Sounds good to me! I used my stock turbo lines (coolant and oil) and stock copper washers...did you do anything different? The copper washers don't seem to seal the best.
