Sorry thats a good point. Does the tachometer needle move when cranking?
Also just remembered check Ignition Timing also.

If there is no movement on the tachometer check the ignition signal circuit.
You can also run a self diagnostic on the ECU, to see if there is anything out of the ordinary.

Will a bad CAS cut spark all together? Since my ka was overheating towards the end I'm thinking the that the CAS went since from what I read the CAS will go if the engine operates over it normal temp

I'm having a very similar problem. When the car died it was low on gas and my gas gauge doesn't work very well, so I thought it just ran outta gas. After making multiple trips to the gas station with a 1 gallon can, I put 5 gallons in it, and still nothing. It tries to crank just fine, but it doesn't seem to be getting any spark. It's been a few weeks since I've messed with it but I don't recall the tach moving at all. I also tried the old trick of spraying ether into the intake incase it wasn't getting fuel for some reason, and nothing. So, it has to be lacking spark.
I have made sure all the plug wires were on tight and not damaged, I have put my finger on the end of each wire while it was being cranked and didn't get shocked (seems like I should have been), then I took the ignition module to an auto parts store and they said it tested ok. I dunno what else to check, this is my first nissan so I'm here to learn. *edit* Keep in mind when all this happened I had only had the car for less than a week so I know very little about it's workings =\ Last edited by Ibetchuwontdoit; 10-05-2012 at 09:02 PM.. I'm thinking we both have a bad CAS since they are known for going bad, assuming you checked your fuses ignition coil and your ignition control module are fine and your grounds are good...

Mm, of that list I didn't check the coil other than putting my fingers on the plug wires. Also, the grounds are questionable. There was a swap done right before I owned it, and the wiring is kinda...meh. Not that I could do any better. Hoping to get time to check some of these things this weekend. I did check the fuses and I THINK the little piece I had tested was the ignition control module (on a bracket bolted to the fender well?) The ECU is brand new and I THINK the engine/ecu is from an s14. At least thats what I was told by the guy I got it from...

Hey guys!
Happy to see that i'm not the only one having problems with my car. I have a 240sx with a rb20det swap. Was running and finished my ride on a platform... The car is cranking, I have spark, the pump is pumping bug injectors won't work... I played with my CAS to see if injectors would click and nothing... ECU give the 55 code witch normally, everything should bee fine. I will try this weekend to see if my 2 relays click on not when turning ignition on. |

sorry to thread jack but im having a similar problem with my ka24e-t , this happened to me a couple of times..it will start and drive fine for a couple of days and then out of nowhere while driving the tachometer will start to jump around and the car dies ,sometimes it will start right back up and sometimes it wont start for a while.every other time it died it would either start right up or i would take the plugs out and clean them and then it would start right up but the last time it died it started right up and i drove straight home and shut the car off and now i cant get it to start again,it will just crank and crank but wont start. my car is lowered and i did notice some rubbing on my drivers side harness so i taped the exposed wires up and still no start.

^ ^ ^ ^ Saw this solution from a mile away lol
if the ECU is bad then it messes with the fuel pump and so it doesnt prime. Swap out a buddy's ecu (same model ecu of course) and try and start your car. If the car starts, its the ecu. And you'll hear the fuel pump start priming.
