@Tom...are you referring to the ET Street Radials or Bias Ply? I have used my ET Street Radials on the street and enjoyed them after warming them up but before they are warm or in the rain....be cautious.

I thought there was a member on zilvia a while back that boasted about having this record but I can't remember his username. I do remember him having a video of it on YouTube. It was a red 89-94 hatch I think.

why would clutch type lsd be better than helical for drag racing? Wouldn't it be harder to break traction if power transfers to the side with most traction?

Power isn't evenly distributed with a helical. That's why its not "ideal". Yes, it still works and is much better than a worn out VLSD or open diff. Having a diff that supplies the power evenly to both wheels is better for all out drag racing.

Guys I have searched and searched, is there any definitive write up of what is needed to get the Q45 diff setup into an S chassis? Most have opinions but are not "sure" of any factual info. For the guys out there that have can you point me in a solid direction?

I'm on the fence about buying the $1,600 DSS axles, but it only makes so much sense when the weak link will be the output shafts...
On the other side of the fence, I am not thrilled about a Q45 shot ass VLSD with one-tire-fires on the street. I have had damn near every diff option in my 14 and I love my kaaz 2 way. Question being, is the Z32 differential itself the same as the Q45 diff itself?? Reason being: If we can swap in a Z32 kaaz 2 way with the bigger output shafts/axles/hubs, the more the merrier?

Thanks guys!!

I have broke many axels and it's always the inner cv cup that breaks. I would go with the $1000 dss axels. I bet those will be enough for most of us.

I think this is what you are after:
http://www.ka24development.com/vlsd.html

I did the 3.54 Q45 swap after seeing a few high powered cars use this on the street and track with great results. The axles are a larger spline axle for this swap.

the q45 300zxtt and GTR axles are alot better design and bigger, 29spline vs 32 spline

Im running a R230 rear end and R32 GTR rear axles.

Should have no issues. A few guys like HEEB and BabillaRacing on SupraForums had this type of setup with 0 issues. Both were launching hard off the line with big power. Babilla then swapped out to the 350z 3.3 LSD if memory serves me right which took the same amount of work as the R230 swap. If I am not mistaken someone also swapped in the Armada version of the R230 on an LS powered car.

To those that are running a q45 3.54 rear end. How did the final gear effect your 1/4 mile times and how much power are you making?

What size tire one was running with the above info would help also.

Assuming you're running an SR, lower rear ratio is the wrong direction for 1/4 mile times. Mazworx ran the 4.63 and swore by them with the SR. I swapped from 4.083 stock to 4.63 and the car is much quicker on the bottom. ETs better and MPHs better. I used 18s with 275/35 toyos and 26 inch hoosier wrinkle wall drag slicks, very similar in diameter.

A 3.54 will make the car much laggier in low gears. You can go to the Q45 diff and swap the ring and pinion as to have the higher ratio and stronger axles.

^I would have to agree with J there. The 3.54 setup is not appropriate for all projects. I chose to go that route cause my initial setup was a 800rwhp 2J with R154 and now I am onto a 5.3 GM turbo setup with GTO T56.

** drag zilvians chime in**

I went with q45 setup but putting a j30 3.91 ring an pinion. Using z32 tranny on a built 650hp rb26. I did the calculator and it will put me around 122mph in 3rd gear and 158 on 4th @ 8k Rpms .Going to double check and post it. And a 6 speed have much shorter ratios so make sense to have a lower rear end.

I'm was running a j30 3.91 with a 370whp sr20det and I like the slightly taller final gear. For the 2015 season, I should be making 500whp. I want to upgrade the axles, so I already got my q45 rear end. I plan on trying the 3.91 final with my new setup first, then switch over to the 3.54 and compare the two. It would be nice to run the 1/4 in 3rd gear at 130mph. One less shift.

If those figures are correct I don't see why the 3.54 final is bad for drag racing. The taller gears mean less shifting which makes it more like an auto and you can run the gears out. Plus if you have a 2 step or launch mode in your ecu you would be able to play with the amount of boost the car launches at. I think I will stick with the 3.54 for a while plus I am revving to at least 9k so the taller gears should work perfectly.

I'm running a 4.10 ratio, i had a 4.63 but i broke the pinion. I think a 4.3X would be ideal. i ran 136mph in the 1/4 on the 4.10 still in 3rd

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. If you have enough power to pull the taller gear, it will allow you to run the 1/4 in 3rd gear and that's one less shift. Did you already get your q45 setup? 9k rpm is going to be nice.

Just to share car is currently on the Dyno. Goal is 19 psi
So far
[email protected] 9 psi
[email protected] 11 psi
[email protected] 16 psi 8,400 rpm
Final will be 19 psi @ 9k rpm. 600hp is the target.
And this is on pump 93 octane
I don't think I even need to use the methanol aem kit unless want to shoot for 650-700hp
