Erich's 1JZ-GTE VVTi S13 2013 Pro-Am Build
This has been a long time coming so I decided I would go ahead and start a build thread on here for my endeavors. With the 2013 season on the horizon I decided to get more serious about earning my FD Pro License, ditched the CA18 and Im moving forward with a 1JZ-GTE VVTi. The motor of choice was tough because Ive grown very attached to the CA, but the lack of power and ability to build the motor further was holding me back. I finished 8th in Evergreen Drift Pro-Am with the most under powered car at the track. Every round furthered my frustrations and as soon as the season ended - I ordered a new motor.
Here is a little history on what I started with and where Im going. Parts are rolling in daily and Im pulling the CA this weekend. Here are some shots of my BMW E30 that I ran for several seasons. This car is where the CA18 began for me. Prior to 2012 I ditched this chassis in favor of a more subtable car - an S13. It seemed like the cliche thing to do, but it proved to be more than capable for me in 2012. Here is a pic of it as it arrived that was texted to me with tons of questionable remarks since I was in Vegas and no where near the motor. I took the time this past weekend to get the motor on an engine stand and do a partial tear down, open the valve covers, remove the pan, etc to do an inspection. Everything engine wise looks good. The turbo on this motor was toast and there are some other small issues that Im working on right now, but this motovated me to start tearing down the CA. One of my newest sponsors is Extreme Turbo Systems (ETS) located here in Washington. ETS is a pretty awesome local company and we are pretty stoked to have them on board for 2013. Im pretty sure this is the first drift car they have ever sponsored. More coming very soon! |

I had driven the E30 for 5 years. That car had seen walls, off track action, you name it and it was just beat to crap. It was hard to do things to the car without fabrication work and I wanted something easier. With the amount of choices for S13 parts on the market - it makes things quite a bit easier. Im happy with the choice. Quote:
Youtube and search Nissan Fest 2012 - I believe he was at that event. Im not sure how many other events he drove. |

Received a small order from driftmotion.com over the weekend. Marlin Crawler Billet Shift Fork, Thrust Washer, Shifter Socket, Heavy Duty Bearing Retainer, and Urethane Bushing for the R154 Transmission.
I have a lot of things coming in right now so I should have some pretty regular updates. Made this...my life right now. |

I'll keep up with this one... I'm almost done my S13 (180sx) with 1jz-vvti swap...
What are you looking into for standalone? I'm running a Haltech PS2000, although expensive, it has some awesome features / add ons > Also, look into doing LS2 GM coilpacks, pretty awesome upgrade for the cost of your ignitor... I'm also selling my coilpacks and ignitor if you want spares... GL with the build, i'll let you know what numbers I make, should see the dyno before Christmas |

Im not planning to go standalone quite yet. Its not really in the budget. Im going to run SAFC2 and Fuel Cut Defender until I can upgrade. Im not planning to do a full rebuild on this motor. Im doing some of the maintenance things like - Water Pump, Timing Components, Crank & Cam Seals, Serpentine Belt, Oil Pump, Etc. I know the head gaskets is not a US Part and I dont plan to mess with that at this point. If you need any of that stuff message Russell @ nissanparts.cc on here (RussellM) and he can help you find the parts. |

Its like Christmas right now with all these new parts coming in.
Ive pulled off all of my suspension links and have those up for sell locally. Im revamping everything, aside from my Tein Coilovers and Solid Bushings. Ill get before & after shots up when I get to that point. F1 Racing Clutch. A buddy of my recommended trying this out - he has used one for a long time and never had any issues or complaints. For the price I couldnt say no. Fluidampr Harmonic Balancer |

I was able to get a little bit of work done on the car this weekend.
First, clean the work bench. Cleaned and painted the engine bay. Im stoked on this - I didnt expect this to turn out so well. I will painting the interior of the car the same color. Received my replacement turbo (stock) and MAF because the motor I received had a blown turbo and no MAF. |

Received my OEM Parts from Toyota. Oil Pump, Waterpump, Belts, Pulleys, Cam Seals, etc - basically some precautionary replacement parts.
What else... Remember that engine bay I was so proud of? Well, we decided to tear back into it and stitch weld it...so that paint job is no more. Ill try to get up some pictures of the work in progress once I get a moment. |
