U guys think i will destroy my car if i do this????

hi guys... i am planing on strip my interior and weld a roll cage..i wanted to get a cleaner look, so u guys think i will destroy the integrity of the chassis if i take off those "triangles" on the rear strut towers? (arrows) i am going to weld a tube betwen the towers (line) what u guys think? anyone have done that? i think cant be that bad... i think the K style dont have those triangles rigth???

p.s. my english suuuuuuucks =/

I think those triangles are just supports or brackets for the rear seat, so there shouldn't really be any structural integrity at risk. Someone else will have to back me up on that to be sure, though.

Either way, if you're putting in a full roll cage, you will gain rigidity regardless of if they're removed or not.

agreed. just make sure that whatever you're doing is reversible. i.e. unbolting stuff rather than simply cutting it out... but a full roll cage will nullify any rigidity loss from removing those triangles.

Correct, those are more for rear seat support. One of my friends had plasma cut those off and installed a bar in the exact place you're planning.

Good luck!

do it well, and you'll end up with something better than the original. they dont support anything important except for the rear seats.

If you look at how it's made though, it could be a factor in rigidity. Flat plates like that, and in that orientation, are very good in making triangles (i.e. more torsional rigidity).

IMO, those two triangles provide more structural support than a bar across the towers.

I'm not sure either though, I just felt the need to be the devil's advocate.

haha who said it wasnt? i went to asia and picked up a jdm chassis. They forgot to ship my Willans harness with it.. jk. Foundd the pic on yahoo jp and had it saved to my hd. Its clean, but too much custom work/fab just for that purpose... besides, s13s are the "throw away" chassis, crash it and get another one. lol

___I concur. It's the S14 chassis that everyone wants to graduate too, or the S30, teehee.
