that article is full of various technical words but does not help in any way.

There is only 1 way to go :

0/make sure your oil pump is ok ...
1/find manufacturers recommended pressure range, in the workshop manual most of the time.

2/try different oil viscosities until you match them.

If pressure when cold is too high, it means your cold viscosity is too high (too thick)

If pressure when hot at idle is too low (considering manufacturer spec, not your own feeling), your oil pump is most likely shot, or you are using a way too thin oil.

Min and max pressure range at around 3000rpm when hot will give you the correct hot viscosity number. "Hot" is the temp where the car is used, usually 90-100° for a street car, 100-120° for a tracked car.

If your temp is colder (unless it is a drag car run quite cold) or hotter, you have a problem with your engine, fix that first.

this works for EVERY 4 stroke engine.

WTF? That's transmission fluid.

To OP:
Figure out what motor you have.

Find the factory service manual for it and read the fluids and lubricants section that will tell you how much and what weight.

Don't listen to hype about how super cool and expensive my oil is. Just search and read and make your own judgements...you can't honestly think that a thread (or 1,000) like this hasn't been made yet right?

If it's stock KA and you're not doing anything special or have any oil issues, use regular oil-- You don't need anything fancy.

Close thread.

I have a bone stock ka24de...probably what you have. 5w30. If you're somehow running an sr20det, between 5w30 to 10w40 depending on how much you're boosting and the climate of your area. Royal purple is sweet but expensive. I usually just roll with either castrol gtx full synthetic or mobile 1 synthetic. Just me though..
