I dont know how this can be considered an acceptable practice by any respectable car tuning community.
By incorrectly shimming the differential you are causing strain on the gear mesh. this will cause unnecessary wear on the gears, heat build up, and possibly failure of parts under certain circumstances. if the engineers at the factory had thought this was a good idea, you wouldn't be hunting around on the internet for a $5 mod to lock up your differential better. thats my 2 cents as someone who actually has experience working with differentials and transmissions
