I wish they would bring something like this to GA. In this town about 3 dui's a week are issued, and that is just campus police. Doesn't include county or city.

Yea cali's late on this one, its been around for a while in other states. I remember being outside of a bar like 2 years ago watching 3 or 4 people in their 40's taking turn trying to get this womans car to start with this thing, it was funny because none of them was sober enough to do it.

Imagine trying to escape from a thief or someone trying to kill you? You would need to pass that test before your car turns on and you can leave.
I think it would help prevent drunk drivers, but theres always ways around it..like having someone sober blow in it and then the drunk guy drives away. |

Oh yeah, I can think of all the times I thwarted someone trying to kill me by getting in my car and driving away. Damn this cruel world where people are trying to rob and kill me everyday...

dui me once: shame on you
dui me twice: shame on me if you get one dui, maybe that was just a slipup. maybe you need to get a serious fine, some points, and a nice hike on your insurance. if you get TWO dui's, maybe you take the bus for a few years. that's how it SHOULD be. no need for expensive car attachments. move closer to work. get a bike. you're in california, you probably already have a fixie.

uhm... Come to arizona. Interlocks are mandatory for your first offense, as well as 45 days in jail, and thousands in fines.
Been that way here for many many years. I have noticed on this forum that californians absolutely love to bitch about their laws. If you don't drive around drunk every night, you have nothing to worry about. If you don't drive like a moron (teenager), you have nothing to worry about If you don't drive like a moron with a completely illegal motor/car, you have nothing to worry about. If you hate the laws in your state, THEN FUCKING MOVE! Use your damned heads and stop complaining here when you get caught! |

They have them here in Texas, but I think it's only if you have repeated offenses or you were super smashed and driving.

Best idea ever.
Helps keep drunks off the road. It's a pain in the ass to pick up a drunk friend and her car that's 30-45 minutes away. -.-

This is a good idea. Maybe this will stop some of the idiots out on the roads.
Even though this is going to be a pain in the ass trying to start your car every single time. What if you're in danger???

no it was more meant towards all the cali, law related threads. There were several people in this thread bitching about it. Not the OP.

We have them here in new mexico. Every vehicle you are registered under has to have one(including motorcycles). You pay for the device and installation out of pocket. If you are caught driving any vehicle without one you go to jail.
We have tech here at work that have dwi's that are no longer allowed to test drive cars due to the laws. When working on a car with one there are lock out codes that usually last about one hour you can get from the specific interlock company. Many of the new ones have camera on them too so you cant fake it. |

Those things are nasty as hell to blow into, and some models require you to huff air back in after blowing. Screw that im not about to make out with some 245lb dwi dude bringin his car into my shop. Customers can either wait and blow everytime we need it started or provide a lock out code.
