The internet is your friend. go to www.scca.org there is a region locator on there. Most regions (especially the huge california regions) have websites with contact information. You don't need someone to go with you. When you call or email the contact person on the website tell them you're new to autocrossing. They'll tell you what you need to do. When you get to registration they'll usually give you a name of someone who is helping out the novices.

go to solo2.com. Its the so cal scca club and they have a schedule for the events this year. Next event is feb 7 at hollywood park.
I want to race my car badly with my new suspension mods, but waiting to buy tires to replace the leaky ones. I have only raced a formula car at the autox and it is really fun. There are also links on their website to help you out if you are new. They also have instructors there. |

All I need to know is where to go, when to go, how much money to bring, and what equipment to bring with me. I get lazy looking at schedules, but definetly post info with the next event so I can be in on it too.

I guess this saturday might be my first taste of auto-x. I just want to wait for this email to see if I HAVE TO send in the $40 before hand or if I can just pay when I arrive at the track. Other than that I need to find a helmet.

i autocrossed for a while back in the day before i started drifting. It was extremely fun. No one to teach you? you learn by doing, and they pay a lot of attention to novices. There are plenty of instructors (they'll ride with you and even drive your car)
if you get there early they usually have loaner helmets. unless you have an exceptionally big head like me. Hollywood park was pretty cool actually. As for payment, you can pay when you get there, BUT get there early cause they fill up alot and sometimes close it off to non-members due to large # of people... which reminds me, i recomend joining SCCA, it rocks, espeically for a student. It was hella cheap and with a student (speek freaks) card each autocross was only $10!!! plus you get a monthly mag thats pretty cool. I learned a lot from the sessions i've been do. Also San Diego has a really good autox region (i actually like SD autox better than LA autox, loved qualcom). They're usually on different weekends. So usually 2 autox in socal every month. Also they have practices, driving schools and such that are really cheap. I recommend it for anyone. I see too many people with bad ass cars that don't do any "driving" besides the freeway and grocerie runs.

Well I guess we can't go to the saturday event anymore; it's full...
On the bright side...it gives me time to go out and buy a good helmet, since I don't have one and I just spent the rest of my money buying a new floor jack. Quote:

i bought mine from jegs, 150 for sa2000 rated, but it's a open face helmet (good for autox and drift days but i think some full course/tracks require full face helmets),

March 20 is a gamble since if you're not a member you have a chance of being one of the 20 visitors. I'm gonna go ahead and pre-register for this one and hope I get lucky cuz the 22nd is my b-day and it will be a good way to start it out.
Go to www.solo2.com for more info.
