Right now, I have 2 12"s in a bandpass. They don't fit in the trunk, as the trunk is only 8" high when the trunk rods come down. I know I'm looking at a custom install, but anyone do anything I could see pics of? Or your opinions of quality of sound? Right now, I just shoved the box in my "back seat" (if they could even call it that) and it has improved a lot acoustically. But I'd like to have a 3rd person occasionaly.

looks like u came to the right place, the coupe is a lil space cramped, i have 2 12" subs as well in the trunk, i've figured 1 way to fit it, which will sacrifise the sound. basically get 2 individual 12" sub boxes, not 1 12" sub box. and lay these 12" sub boxes on their back, than voila, u've got it, you can IM me if u want to see the pics of how i set it up, 'cause i ahve no place to upload it

i had the same problem.. instead of doing 2 12's i stuck with jusy 1 good one..
i had it sitting face up with a slight angle towards the rear and the big flat slanted box is pushed up against my rear strut bar with my amp bolted to the back. it sounds good. instead of 2 mediocre 12's just get 1 good one and save space and money. i wish i had a digi so i could take pics but me dont |

I assume these are sealed enclosures? Or they wipe out the spare tire.

I ran into the same problem when I bought my 240sx. I ended up just building one custom 12" sealed enclosure. I'll take a pic and upload it or something. Also, I can give you some dimensions if you want. I paid like $12 for all the material plus a couple hours of my time in the garage. Probably saved around eighty bucks or so.

I have two 12 inch subs but in indiviual boxes which i built. And the trunk rattle is HORRIBLE!!! anyone else with this problem?? I dont have much power going to the subs though.
What i plan on doing though is getting rid of them and going for 2 10s and putting them in the rear panels of my S14. you can see the install on 240sx.org , John Copeland did it and from the pictures it looks nice so I am going to have American Radio do it since i dont want to fool with subs anymore. Plus i will probaly screw it up big time. |

Trunk rattle is pretty easy to get rid of. Get a couple pieces of styrofoam, or cardboard, and cut them into sizable pieces. Turn up your stereo without the car running, just the stereo running off the battery. Easier to hear the rattles. Once you hear a rattle in the trunk, cram a piece of styro or cardboard there, see if it gets rid of that rattle, etc. Just trial and error. Once you know where all the rattles are, you can buy Dynamat, or a real nice cheap fix, is this roofing spray you can get at home depot. Shuts it up nicely. Good luck.

all you need to do is make (or buy) a box with an angled front baffle. the box does not have to be a bit bigger than the subs, and will sound better the the subs firing into the rear deck. if you dont have a swa, just go to lowes or something, as they will cut all your pieces for free. just get some screws, liquid nails, and some silicone caulk and assemble, youll be good to go

Only concern with the trunk, is I still need functionality of that spare tire.
