SR laggy temp gauge

so my temp gauge in my s13 seems to not be reading properly. no aftermarket gauge, talking about the oem one on the dash.

car has an s14 sr20det swap w/ aluminam radiator and electric fans and new t-stat.

the gauge usually gets to just under the 1st bar on the temp gauge after like 30min of driving, ive had it reach the middle mark on the gauge after a long drive but once i come to a stop the needle drops.

the engine def heats up b/c it triggers the fans to turn on, anyone ever experience this before? Do you think its the temp sending unit not reading correctly. the shop that did the swap noticed it and they said they checked temp sensor and it was working.

car runs and drives great tho, any input is appreciated.
