Some additional info:
Easiest way to take the tranny out is to tilt the engine back. You can do so by either disconnecting the downpipe at the cat and having someone pull down on it or use a jack and a block of wood at the very front of the oil pan. Then you need to rotate the tranny to slide it completely off. I'm pretty sure the FAQ article states to take the crank position sensor out, but DEFINITELY take it out before removal (I recall the FAQ article only mentioning it for reinstallation.) When you get the sucker down you'll breathe a sigh of relief.... then realize you're gonna have to line it back up (twice as hard as taking it down). Finally, crank bolt is 27mm IIRC. Might need to brace a breaker bar on it when unbolting the clutch pressure plate and flywheel (to take the flywheel to get resurfaced).

Sorry to revive an old thread but I'm having a hell of a time trying to get to my top bolts off of the bell housing. Does anyone have any tricks? I ran out of ideas and I'm thinking I might need a tool that I don't have. Thanks for anyone's help.
