What size wheels are you guys running, with what tire size. I am in the final steps of wheel selection for my trackcar, and i am curious to see some other set ups out there. These wheels will not be used on the streets, nor will i be drifting in them, or autoxing, so a short sidewall will not be necessary.

if you are going to be doing circuit racing with it? if you are i would still recommend a shorter sidewall to allow less sway and a little more response

Try to get 16's in an 8 or 8.5" width all around. The car is most balanced with a non-staggered setup. The width will allow you to run 225-245 width tires. Either work well. I prefer 16's as they make the car feel less sluggish, and give you some sidewall choice flexibility.

for track days i would go with 16x8/8.5 as well and a 235 series (225 i think is ideal) tire max if your putting down less than 300 horse...at least if your running full blown slicks.

track tires need a lot of heat to work properly...and something like a 255 series tire with only ~200 horse will take awhile to heat up.

If you go with something less than slicks or even R compounds (something like azenis sports), then it wont take too long to heat up. So i would go about as wide as possible (to an extent), id say no wider than a 255 or so would be PLENTY of tire. 225 leaves a little grip to be desired, the new azenis (if you go with a 17" rim) comes in a 245/45/17, and a 255/40/17.

I was thinking of running of 17x8.5 or 17x9 all around, but i think the 16x8.5 is the best bet. Oh and i am putting down 300 ponies already, and hope to have ruffly 325 realible horsepower , and simlar torque for trackdays, (s13 redtop) and i am thinking of running kumho mxs. Any other open lappers care to share with what seems to work the best?
Oh and these wheels are for an S14 if that helps. tia

yea you can fit 17x9 all around on an s14. On an s13, i dunno, with perfect offsets maybe, but without that, i dont thikn you could fit that up front

I have Kumho MXs on my car. On the track they stick ok - on par with Azenis Sports. Probably the most grip you will get on street tires besides the G-force KDs. If you have the money I'd go with R-compounds but that's not practical if you daily drive the car or don't have another set of wheels.

I have a S13 with a SR blacktop motor and it works well with a staggered 205/225 F/R set up on 16"x7/8 but then I'd probably want to run something wider if I had wider wheels. I have some traction problems accelerating out corners as the rear end wants to come out under throttle.

Bdubs- what sort of tire budget do you have? Buy wheels based on the tire $ and size you can afford to run. imo 17's are larger than necessary BUT that depends on your brakes.

yea but depending on the offsets of your wheels, you could run a 225 on that 7, and a 245 on the 8, so you could put more rubber on there if you wanted.

budget is not the concern. Although the car will be street driven. And the mxs are the most cost effective tire in that regrads. Im not sure yet which brakes im going with, but i would think they would fit in most dished 16s. As for brakes what is everyone running here as well. I know z32 s the most cost effecitive way but how well do they hold up, fade ect, braking strength.

ive got the z32s and only really do autoX and haven't had a problem at all with em. They stop like a postwar economy, and theres NO fade. Im gonna run my first roadcourse on em on the 27th, ill post them how the car was.

I'm sure it will fit. The wheels are +30 offset but I'd rather not have the tire bulging out the sides and adding more tire flex. The 205/225 fit perfectly but then my car is mainly a street car and weekend track car.

Z32 brakes work great, just make sure to have some good brake pads.

souds good, z32 sounds like the most fesable option, ill just get some carbon kelvar pads. So 16X 8.5 should be a good wheel with +25 or +30 all around, or a 17x8.5 around with similar offset?
