Rebuild or engine swap?
So just got a 91 240sx she didn't even make it home
But pulled it into firestone to see what the problem was it's clear something in the block broke not sure what yet but they said the engine needs replacing because the block is bad, I don't trust there statement they were very vague and I feel like I want to get a second opinion or look at it myself what type of tests can they run to check block integrity? And what can I do to make sure if I rebuild it's not a bad block? |

How is the block broke? You dont exactly just "break" a damn iron block. You need to figure out exactly what is fucked with it. If you don't know or can't figure it out...sell the car and buy a civic. These pieces of shit ain't for you.

^^^^ exactly. what happened? did it over heat? was it trying to die on you, loss of power but ran still? your complaint is just as vague as the mechanics analysis buddy.

sorry about that i got a few more details about halfway home the car had been warmed up for maybe 5 mins or so at operating temp. and it was having issues dying when the clutch was depressed or the car was in neutral. Was almost home and it died and failed to started after cooling down it started right up, i got it halfway down the road and i heard a really loud clattering noise, i shut the car down and coasted into the mechanic shop of to the side of the road. I got ahold of another mechanic that looked at it as well while it was there and he said that he found metal shavings and that it sounded like a rod bearing was bad. i got a buddy of mine that is gonna tow it and pull the engine and open it up, and see whats going on. im just trying to get her running bought it as a project car since i dont know much about cars. decided i wanted to start drifting and at the same time learn how to work on cars by working with buddies and learning what i can

Sounds like a couple of things... The shavings in the oil though is a clear sign that metal is rubbing against metal :/ probably a cylinder that went bad, and the rattling or knocking noise coul be your timing chain/ the cylinder again. But I'm pretty sure your actual block is fine.

Metal shavings in my case was from main bearing
My cylinder walls was fine....but needed a line hone(where the crankshaft sits) Keep it and rebuild it Try to find a ka and play with it while rebuilding |
