Digital Speedo problems

About six months ago, I noticed my HUD flickering every now and then and after a month or so it quit working completely.

About a month later my speedo started fading out and then back again.  It finally quit working altogether as well.  Well, it works for about five, maybe six seconds following startup and then fades to black.

I'm really getting weary of using the tach to avoid speeding tickets.  

Anybody have a solution?

I've been considering an aftermarket digital speed/rpm meter since it would be considerably cheaper than replacing the dash.  Input?

I have the same exact problem, actualy it has been that way since i have gotten my car, and i have been using the tac to avoid speeding tickets, just down shift if u think ur speedin near a cop cause the cops can't take an accurate reading, and they don't see break lights, see cops play games down here the first person to tap the break gets pulled over:D (funny but true), but i still have not found a reasonable solution. good luck if ya find one tell me &nbsp; <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'>
