Well the time has finally come for me to qualify for formula d. We have had our testing days to setup the car, and besides the motor almost being blown up, we should have a great shot at the qualifier. We depart around lunch time tomorrow (friday) and head to irwindale speedway.

The event is on saturday, we were really excited until we looked at the forcast. It will be raining the whole time. And at a track like irwindale this could mean trouble with all the walls. Not to mention that my car is pretty much impossible to drive in the rain.

Well we will do our best, and no matter the outcome, we will have as much fun as possible.

Wish us luck.

Foo, you crazy. Its 'on rain!

"Saturday:

Mostly cloudy with a chance of rain in the morning...then rain likely and a slight chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon.

Highs around 60.

Southeast winds around 15 mph in the afternoon. Chance of rain 70 percent."

Jackie Johnson from KCAL sez so!

Norcal for the win baby, remember Luke.......backpedal a lot in the rain, no need to stay on the throttle, use your throttle to angle your drift, brakes don't make a big difference in the rain. GOOD LUCK!!!!!! You'll do just fine biatch! Good luck as well George!!!!

Ok so 8 cars ate shit,

the way they setup the course had nothing to do with drifting skill, but to how

well cars resist understeering in the rain, and how nimble they were.

Only 4 people got picked.

George and xander kicked ass and shoulda quald.

It was an unorganized event because of irwindale.

FD+LS1+Rain = Hardest car to fucking drive i have ever driven.

I will only say this once so dont ask questions for my sake.
my friends believe It was very apparent in the judging that favortism of their personal friends scored much higher.

Other then that we drank a shit load, partially crashed a 50th birthday party at the hotel, and failed our mission of finding dead hookers.

i was there as well. I didnt drive, i just helped to carry some stuff up there for a friend who was driving.

I will say that the course completely sucked balls and the judging was a joke. At the end when the scores were posted, the favoritism was VERY obvious. Its really stupid. Formula D, D1....they can both suck a big fat one. Its really sad how its all about marketability and very little being based on actual drivers skill. Whatever, i'll help out at the next one too, but you'll never see me compete in a series with such an asstactic method for running things.

MOVING ON...

Luke, you car sounds completely BAD ASS! This was the first time i saw it in action and all i can say is WOW! And Good driving too! Screw the politics and keep doing what you're doing. A + man.

Fuck Formula D and D1. You guys do know about the Just Drift Series right? Guaranteed to be less BS than the "PRO" series. Plus, with paired team tandem battle, this shit will be waaaaaaaaaaay cooler than any of the FD feeder series BS. And for you Norcal folks, there will be a round held at Golden Gate Fields so it is an incentive for us Socal folks to go up there and try to get points for the series.

Just Drift!!!! NO BS!!!!

There will always be favoritism and politics in this sort of thing as long as humans subjectively judge the driving.

I can't believe you all are just now speaking on this. .. .

Or just now realizing the reality of all this period, there are many drivers that are not wasting their time trying to get "qualified" under the conditions that Formula D has provided, and as far a D1, well i think we all know how difficult it is to make that level event, considering the ever increasing popularity of the project period, the younger groups of enthusiasts are the one's who have built this barrier for the one's who actually have the time invested in this style of driving, thus creating a glass ceiling. .. .i can only imagine how many people on this topic alone this forum who had Honda badges proudly displayed and well spoken for in the past. .. .now it is near 50/50 weight dis just to tear some tires up. This is a lifestyle people, times change, yes I am not an avid enthusiast of the HONDA corp, I'll be the first to admit this, but I know a well built car when I see one, I've been in this game for THAT long. .. .

So, to all of these kats that claim they are being singled out because of "favorites" style judging, just imagine the black drifters/drivers that are trying to come up, jay, myself, brandon, & all the others that are out there taking time to speak to other enthusiasts and develop inside knowledge and the necessary skills within a lifestyle that we have decided to give our time too, enthusiastically we enjoy it to the utmost fullest, I don't care what the individual looks like but the simple fact is. .. .there will always be barriers that will continue to push us harder.

Quite frankly, i feel those who cannot accept the competition, and gain strength from them. .. . then step off, cause you can't see us.

That has to be one of the dumbest replies i have ever read, everyone that has read it, is now dumber for doing so. Please repost this in the "i feel profiled" section if their was one. race has nothing to do with this dude, only people that know people.

Anyways. I was wishing i was driving my s14 that day, i have driven many, many, many cars in the rain. and i must say the fd is comparible to driving a road race car in the mud. The balance is great but the sliding grip is not there, and lets not even talk about the throttle control.

There will always be favoritism and politics in this sort of thing as long as humans subjectively judge the driving.

If this keeps happening i will say fu&k drifting, and eat breakfast sausages instead of even driving a car.

I cant wait for Round 1.

I would rather not goto fd then to spend $3000 on gas, food lodging, tires, etc to drive 1922.09 miles to texas to drift for 8 laps in a parking lot. its too much money.

I was not speaking on behalf of race, I read the topic, & I still feel the same way. .. .Circumstances are relative. .. .Group or individual. My statement did include "singled out" yes, relative to the topic, I should have said group, woudld it have changed my thoughts and feelings, fuck nah'.

I simply related this simpleton topic to the facts of life take place. .. .whether or not you've seen it happen, I have. I know exactly what you spoke on regarding group judgement or neglect or knowing people to get into places that the regular guy cannot. .. .

don't be so fast to respond on them keys Blu, think for a second.

Like the conditions of the track that day, you could have qualified in you silvia, & not that LS1 7, but you chose not to listen to the forecast the day before. options are always available, yet shit still happends. .. .

Out of all the vids I've watch, I didn't see you understeering at all. All your runs you were relying on your power. I could see and hear you lift off a lot and using your power getting back up the hill. This what put your car so far and too wide in the bottom cause of you lifting off way too much.

Im not saying you aren't a great driver, You are but that track required some skills. I saw all your runs and it was just shitty. Maybe you weren't on top of your game that day, so stop with the excuses. Even Takahiro had way too much understeer on his car. After crashing he had to swap out another struts from another car. He's alignment was so off. You could tell when he's at full lock, the passenger side got way more angle. You could also see when hes at the top of third gear he's car was swaying back in forth.

Thank you very much. you would not believe how hard that car is to drive in the rain.

Al- what Luke said about knowing people..it's not complete BS. It helps you get your foot in the door at least. For example, last time at Infineon you were petitioned in, as well as this time. Luke had to qualify. Now from what i saw, Luke did better than you last time, and we didn't even see you run this time, but he didn't get his foot in the door because he didn't drift well enough, and you got in because you know people who will vouch for you, and it doesn't matter if you understeered off the track while flipping your headlights up and down. And Gabe stuck by your side somehow??. More power to you though. You did well at the drift showoff. I hope to see you do as well in Formula D this season, cause it boggled the mind how you even made it in last year, and how you didnt have to qualify this year.

You're a prime example of how the system works.

No Im not offended at all. Any negative / advise is always good. I know for a fact that you're a little retarded so Im going to let that slide. You weren't even at Sonoma on Friday to see the qualifying... You were the one that told me that you weren't there to see it.. hmmm? I was actually the last one that qualified out of the 12th driver so nothing too amazing of what I have done. Im not going to make up excuses but I actually broke my clutch during the qualifying round and I still made it. Not mad at that.. I didn't get petition in retard.

For Saturday, sure I was having trouble with my car. You don't see me going in forums to cry about it. WAHH WAHHH. I had brand new clutch that was given from ACT but Im not a great driver that I could adapt to the new set up so quickly so yeah, I admit I had a hard time initiating. Here's another excuse, my tranny was gone so downshifting going up hill in 2nd gear was impossible. I had to keep it all third gear or 1st gear. Just another excuse. :duh:

Let me give you a fine example of how the system work... We were the lowest budget team in FD last year yet we still made it to all 4 FD events. I also made it to a couple qualifying rounds. This gives you a rep and people knows you are willing to commit...

Now now now.. Thats just not it. You send FD a proposal of why you should be given a license. Its just not all about "Im Var and I bought someone else PINK 240SX". You have to give them a proper plan of what you are going to be doing in 2006 season. Yeah, I told them that we are committed for the whole season so they agree. Im not the only one that was given a license.

If you are willing to commit then people will trust you. Luke is a good driver. no doubt but don't tell me that he was doing great at Sonoma... All I saw was a spin out.

Al i just re read the threads. I did'nt post that reply, someone at my house must have done it. Anyways. I do not think that i should have qualified that day. I wansnt driving well and my car wasnt working with me. With that said i dont see what the problem was. At first some of my friends had a problem with the judging, and that was one of the reasons i was going to call formula d, luckly a representative from dday contacted me and cleared things up. Aparently some one had a look at a judging sheet, and confused their car number with how they finished. I do believe that all the people that were picked that day were the best ones out there.

I had a fun time, and it was interesting to see how an fd drives in the rain with the ls1. Now next time i should be better prepared for the rain.

I have recently been informed that what i had posted here has been missunderstood and some have taken it personally. Please let me try to set this straight for everyones sake.

When i said i felt the event was disorganized it was not pointing the blame at anyone associated with fd/dday. I just felt overall that curve balls were being thrown at them by the track. Such as when they told the staff the event had to be cut short an hour. I spoke with moto at the event numerous times, and the only confusion about the event operations seemed to have been a result of irwindale.

As for the people that qualified. I believe they were the best choices, and they were def on their a game. I liked how hiro came from hitting the wall, to pulling it off with a car that had the allignment settings changed from the impact.

I truely did'nt believe that i should have quald, because i wasnt being consistant that day, my setup was crappy for the rain, and i found out that i cant really drive that car in the rain. It was really interesting seeing how the FD reacts in the wet conditions, as i had never driven one in the rain.

As for the Judging, I thought everyone they picked was the right choice. I have spoken with alex, chris, taka, ben, many times before and they never once made me think that they would judge improperly.

The only thing i wanted to ask dday about was some questions my friends had regarding their scores, which they thought wasnt right.

A dday representative called me yesterday, and nicely cleared everything up. It was confusion on my friends part, and what i was led to believe.

Other then that im sorry if i upset any of the drivers that qualified, didnt qualify, or any of the officials. I actually had a fun time at the event, and i will make sure to be more specific in the future. That way no one gets the wrong impression.

^^ now that's the right statement. Everyone should be happy now right? Oh well, I still feel bad for those of whom ran into wall (and the not so pro. crowds... IMO)

Luke, your car sounded awesome! and I wish you luck next time at San Diego.

Thanks but the rt615's are actually awsome in the rain. It is the fd/ ls1 that is not. The car broke loose easy without any unexpected handling problems, it is just the fd is impossible to drive in the rain once you are allready sideways. The off throttle, braking, and throttle modulation is very difficult compared to all the 240's i have owned. But i will practice and i hope i will some day have the skill to be competitive in any condition.

Me too. Alot of great cars/drivers hit the wall that day, and i feel bad for that. Im sure with the lines they were taking, even though they wernt adapted to the wet. That in the dry they would have done fine.

blu808 do you think the LS1 in your FD upset the original weight distribution of the FD with rotary? Or is the chassis itself just diffifcult to maneuver in the rain?

blu808

Chassis is hard to drive in the rain, and with the ls1 torque it makes it really difficult to control.
