My S14 "Service Engine Soon" light came on. &nbsp;I already took it in for the 30K tune up. &nbsp;I start my car and it takes a little longer than usual to crank up. &nbsp; What do you guys think it is? &nbsp;I'm thinking maybe it's the battery since it still stock. &nbsp;I hate Nissan here where I live because they have bad customer service and they rip people off! <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

Welcome to Nissan America...

I'd say your battery is a good place to start. &nbsp;Dono what else could go bad in less than 40,000 miles that would cause it to take a bit longer to start...

Maybe your haveing two different problems. &nbsp;Glad the battery stoped the original problem you described, but, like camppain said, a bad battery won't throw a code so that light may be caused by something else.

However, if you want to turn it off I just put a thing up in the FAQ (http://www.zilvia.net/f/cgi-bin/ikonboard.cgi?act=SF;f=6) section...

if u r too lazy to check the above faq, look here (http://www.zilvia.net/f/cgi-bin/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=2;t=10064) look to the bottom, it outlines what u need to do to check codes

actually if you want to reset your codes just let the battery be unhooked for awhile and that resets them...also you can just hook it up to one of those testers...dont know what there actual name is...but its the one that plugs into your car and checks for all the codes...if you know any mechiancs they might have one...and they are expensive...like 1,000 dollars...but they test all kinds of cars...there are cheaper ones...also the cat conv. usually causes the light to come on...its probably clogged...thats about all the help i can give...

Well acctully i have read in my chiltons book that the battery can throw a code. But the only real way to reomve a code is to reset the ecu.Old domestics you could take the negitive side loose and touch a ground source and reset it that way if i remember right but not on our cars i dont belive. But then again i could be wrong about the reseting.

there is no code a battery can throw i work at nissan as a tech. the ecu throws lights due to something in the engine drivetrain malfunction ex: torque convertor o2 sensor gas cap left loose. etc there has never been a code set by a battery.

old domestics would reset codes like that cause the computers were not in them and or 2. the computers did not have backup memory which today's ecu's have ram and rom. so that will not reset the code

the diagnostic tools are obd II scan tools nissan call's thier's consult, it costs 3500 bucks just for the tool no disks included.
