Most of us own tuned cars and god knows how much efford we put into our babies... but since it's going out of hand, what do you do to prevent robbers ?

Kill switches, alarm system but that's it ? What do make to steal "that" car over "that" car ? I'm getting very disturbed since I work in a commercial center and I have to let my car outside. :-/

I suggest Searching, since kill witches, alarms, harness re-routing, and every other topic related to security have already been discussed in detail.

If you car has a lot into it, then get a second beater to daily drive.

Aftermarket wheels, big exhaust, intercooler, aero, buckets, cf hood, etc will make your car a tasty target for thieves. Essentially if it makes it look good, go fast, or corner well, it's a giant bull's eye.

LoJack and McGards seem to be a good combination. Oh, and theft insurance for a declared value, if possible.

What if you live at an apartment, condo or townhouse (without a garage) ?

Don't live in a shady one. Try to make friends with neighbors to eye on your stuff, park in well lit area, etc. Or save the money you're spending on your car and move somewhere "safer" or a place with a garage.

I mean obviously even a garage isn't enough, but just be aware of your surroundings. Even if you have a garage, I'm sure a thief is gonna recognize what car parks where, especially if you're out in the driveway working on it, washing it, etc.

I guess if you don't feel comfortable leaving your car whereever you live / frequent you shouldn't modify your car beyond the point of your "loss zone."

the problems with guns are.. they encourage violence.. i mean.. one day u point at a thief... he gets scared.. runs away.. all is good

next time.. he comes with 2 buddies strapped and loaded.. at your home.. and

1. robs more
2. hurts you and your family
3. etc
4. etc

+1 for being more aware of your surroundings.. live cautious.. but then again.. GUNS ARE KOOL!! Just dont flash that thing like Shaft

not necessarily true, in socal, a LOT of stock 240's are going missing these days, and stock corollas too.

Yeah there's a new stolen thread on Ziliva from my neighborhood like every week. Stock cars, modified ones.

Anyone have any ideas for how to make it hard for the theives to take the whole car? I don't mind them stealing wheels or anything else like that, but I'd just like to prevent them from taking the chassis out of whatever parking lot it's in.

An too often overlooked fact is that most of us (car people) rather spend money on cars mods first than a good alarm. Alarm should be one of the first mods done to the car.

quick-release hub and take that steering wheel EVERYWHERE with you; grocery shopping, movie theatre, school, work, doctor's office, etc.

plus, a fuel kill switch in an odd place couldn't hurt.

Kill switch attached to your fan control switch. If my fan is not on my fuel pump will not work, anything from speed 1-4 it will work.

lojack/gps transponder if you are worried about your whole car walking away.

you should be able to to set up a decent DIY system similar to the stalker stuff for not too much money. then you get the pleasure of saying hi to the theives, with a baseball bat.

isn't there laws that protect the theif if he tries to steal your car. I know it's like people can get sued even if the have a beware of dog sign. sam eas you can't boobie ( heh boobie) trap your own house. I rememebr a big debate, sports player i believe, shot someone from the balcony with a rifle/shotgun and was taken to court. but i don't remember if he killed the guy or not. eh he deserved to dire if he was trying to steal the car! FOCKER! thats the only reason that i haven't gotten a gun. too many consequences if you shoot a theif. i have had three hit and runs on my car all in front of my house. two attempts to steal my car. i have an alarm tho. that might have stopped them.

shaved door handles are a plus, detach steering wheel, viper alarm, kill switch, fuel cut switch, put that with like 5 other switches and have a certain pattern for it to work :D flood lights around your car. dog big or small doesn't matter as long as he can bark his ass off! club lock thing for clutch brake gas pedals, wheel locks. car cover with lock, garage. search many many threads

who here hasn't modified their car beyond the point of their "loss zone?????

lol. gonna take you an hour just to get into your own car with all that. ^_^

I am one who cannot afford to have my car stolen, nor can I afford the full coverage to cover it if it is. woot.:ugh:

my friend has been jacked too many times (GSR integra with jdm front). He had alarm and everything. Now he took all of it off, all he has is splash quick release and he takes off the fuel relay now no problems. he said alarms dont do much anymore.

I believe the link is old, since they ARE NOW ILLEGAL... haha, it's worth it just to find a crispy criminal in my driver's seat!

rob·ber·y ( P ) Pronunciation Key (rb-r)
n. pl. rob·ber·ies
The act or an instance of unlawfully taking the property of another by the use of violence or intimidation.
I think the word you were looking for was thief. In my law classes if you call a theif a robber you can be sued for deformation of character. Yes I know that is BS, but true. It is a sorry state of affairs when criminals are protected by crappy laws like that.
thief ( P ) Pronunciation Key (thf)
n. pl. thieves (thvz)
One who steals, especially by stealth.
I heard a comedian saying that car alarms and such have basicly caused the rate of carjacking (A form of robbery) to go up. I guess basicly what I am saying is that "If they want it bad enough they will get it".

something like that

they may steal ur car but it will eventually run outta gas. yea parts can be stolen but at least u know ull get ur car back somehow. my mom got her car stolen around thanksgiving, still havent found ti yet

yeah, that will work great if you AlWAYS keep a 1/2 gallon of gas in your car.

All these meathods won't stop them if they really want your car. In that case it'll just get towed. QR hub, alarm, starter kill, ignition kill, locked fuel cap, whatever else. If they want it bad enough they'll take it. Kinda sucks.

I guess, maybe if you make it a pain in the ass to steal your car, they'll just move onto something easier.

ThatGuy
01-15-2006, 05:35 PM
Locks and Alarms keep honest men honest.

But yes if you make it a royal pain to steal, they may move on to something cheaper. Hidden sirens in the dash, Fuel pump cut-off, battery cut-off, GPS tracking, Rabid pit-bull tied to the steering wheel, whatever. Every system can be by-passed with enough time/knowledge. Sorry.

damn. i think the best way would be

1.) roll up your windows all the way!
2.) lock your sunroof!
3.) lock your doors!
4.) put the club on your steering wheel.

and wallaaa! no one messes with you..when they see the club. then that means business..

lmfao..hahahaha

i'm jess f*king round..
