I am going to buy some 17s since i did the 5 lug swap and i was wondering what brands are good, i seen some tenzo r wheels that i liked, but i really dont know if they are any good, any opinions would be appreciated...oh and im looking to spend about 1000 dollars for a wheel and tire package, i was looking at racing hart wheels, but they are alittle outta my price range...

you really won't be able to get anything all too special in 17's for 1000. good tires are just as expensive as wheels, and in some cases more. if you can pull off a good set of 17's with nice tires, i applaud you.
my advice, just buy whatever you think looks good as long as it's under 25lbs a wheel.

What about the "Gram lights "series from Rays Engineering???
Here's a link to them....very nice wheel IMO...
http://www.rayswheels.co.jp/
.....go to the "wheel database" section and look under the Gra, lights series...
They don't have a listing under thier general fitment guide for the S14...for the S15, but not the S14...hmmmm. Are they the same lug pattern or no???
Wonder how much they cost too???

The Gram Lite GL57C are very cheap! Well as far as good Japanese rims go. I think in 17" they retail for a little over $300 each .. There is a fitment for the any 240. For information and nearest dealer contact Mackin Industries (Volk's importer) or look at www.mackinindustries.com
The GL57C are very light and are cheap since they are cast rims not forged like most Volk rims. But don't think by anymeans cheaper in quality control.
In order to compete in the US where quality does not matter only cheap wanna be looking rims. RAYS had to start developing lower cost non-forged rims.
Oh and BTW if you are looking at Tenzo R, or Konig, or ADR, or AXIS please keep your rims stock.

I love the Nismo LM GT4's.. mmmm..
this is the size they recommend in 17's:
front:
+30 215/45 R17
rear:
+35 235/40 R17
how wide is that? 7 1/2 and 8 1/2?

He said he only wants to spend 1000 total in wheels and tires so what should he be looking at?
IMHO spending 300 or more per wheel could better be spent elsewhere.

If you want decent it's not gonna be cheap. The VOLK GL57C are cheap as hell for a quality rim. The only rims I have ever used or will ever use are Volks..1. because i hate crap 2. I hate copies/knockoffs 3. I actually care about the quality of the stuff that goes on my cars. ADVAN is the only other that I would debate to put on.
Example:
Konig Greenlite - Copy of Mugen MF10
Konig Monsoon - Copy of Volk AV3
Konig Rated R - Copy of Volk TE37
Konig Tantrum - Copy of ADVAN Model 7
Konig Toxxin - Copy of Sparco Viper
Copies are crap, copies are rice. Konig is like the payless shoe store of rims. You get what you pay for. You will never find a substitute for quality when you buy something inferior.
I've see the paint on these copy rims flake, peal, fade. The rims are weaker and I've seen so many that "pacman" on bumps. AND if the rim is strong the damn thing is so damn heavy that there is not point to even put good tires on them.
On my FD i've used VOLK; AV3, Challenge, III, TE37, GT-N and GT-C so I know the quality and peformance of Volk.
If you can't afford it then save.

Alright good for you man. They should retail for about 300-320 each. You might be able to find it cheaper. What area do you live in.? State/city. I can find your nearest Volk dealer.

Some of us weren't born with the silver spoon in our mouths, so copies or cheaper rims are the way for some of us. i've had konig tantrums on my ride for over a year, not a single problem. i also have the yokahoma parada's, they are a very good wet tire. but i am having some traction issue's, but i am thinking it is related to my lack of suspenion mods, or the fact that i am rollin on 18's. some of you guys need to get off your high horse.

Not everyone wants to drop 3g's on some wheels. your earlier comment on all cheaper wheels being crap was just ridiculous. We all have different wants and plans for our rides, i am not trying to make a living at racing, so why spend that much cheese? you are trying to portray those who don't buy advans, or volks as rice boys. you need to calm down on your stereotyping.

Crap? So what do you buy Nike or Payless?
And yes not everyone wants to be a weekend racer either but hey might as well have that "racer look" right? Hey I admit I like a car to look a certain way but I'm not going to sacrifie quality.
Also most sterotypes come from a certain amount of fact.
Hey each to his own right? I guess you're saying. Might as well look fast if you can't be fast?

actually i wear adidas, but that's not the issue.
you missed my point entirely. you are correct about the quality issue, but you have to have common sense as well. not many people can afford the best of everything, so we make compromises. you have fun saving up for 10 years to build your dream machine and i'll have fun driving mine.

ohhh.......now i get it.
it's ok to dump $2000+ on not-so-good 18's, but it's not ok to spend 2000+ on nice 17's. it's all making sense now.

i do regret buying my 18's. they do look better, but i am usually one for functionality over form, (my rims being the only exception) 18's handle like shit and are heavy. I don't have a problem with expensive parts just certain peoples attitudes toward those who don't buy them. I was just trying to point out that people should be rational when buying performance upgrades. IMO it's not worth it eating top ramen for 2 months so you can afford a rim 2 lbs lighter than another. of course that's all it is, my opinon (which is heavily finacially geared cause i am buying a house ). and i picked up my 18's for under a grand.

Rabbit23- Ok i see your point now too and sorry for jumping on your ass.
But that is why i brought up Gram Lite by VOLK. Finally there are rims that are quality rims for a cheaper price. I understand that not all people can spend $3k on a set of rims.....but I find it sad when people go cheap especially when they have no idea on what they are buying.
I still stand on the fact that Konig are crap BUT there are always alternatives. You don't have to spend a TON of money to get something good but don't just buy crap.
Yea top ramen is a good snack but not a meal. What's worse and i think you will agree is someone buying cheap crap rims when yesterday they spent $400 on APC lights just last week.
Hmmm that's like 1/2 of what a set of Gram Lite would be. That's where my attitude comes from....maybe save was the wrong word? Prioritize? Yes that is a better word. If someone is so big on performance why do they blow cash on pretty lights then complain they don't have money for good rims....that's a better idea where i'm commin from.

alright rabbit.........i guess if you got those 18's for such a good deal and you are aware of them slowing the car down, then i'll let it slide.
still, i think spending 2k or more for wheels is just plain idiotic.

I think that in general you get what you pay for, but there are also stand out rims like the K-1's that are cheap AND light. I would also argue that based on the number of cars running those at the track is a further testament to their quality. At the other end of the sectrum you have diminishing returns. Sure I could have dropped $2k on rims in stead of the rota subzeros I got, but shipped I got all 4 for the price of one typical volk or advan wheel, and they still only weigh 14.5 lbs. I now have money left for tires, a full suspension kit, helmet, seat and harness.
I think you need to be more informed when buying "cheap" wheels. There are deals to be found, but they are far less common than cheap heavy wheels that really are cheap.

well my total comes to 1400 which imo isnt a bad price at all for rims and tires, and the reason i didnt want to spend all that much is i am still fixing my car and want to make sure i have enough money to fix it before i start buying wheels, it would be quite stupid to have a unfinished car sitting on nice 17 inch rims...does anyone know if the nismo bumper is the same as stock, or is it alittle different...its the one for the 97 240?
