Where can I find gloss black wheel paint? Both autozone and popboys only have flat black? Also if anybody has a picture of a black zenki with black SE wheels could you post it?

Try VHT Caliper paint, I bought some a while ago from Autozone. I can't see why it wouldn't work with wheels.

I didn't spray clear, but I'm sure you can.

I used the high temp engine paint from pepboys and then clear on top of that, came out good.

how did you guys mask if there's a polished lip?

The old school trick is to rub a light film of petroleum jelly on the wheel lip, then paint the rest. Once the paint is completely dry, wipe off the jam.

Clean the lip well, and then apply good painters tape. For a sharp cut-off in close to the face, I'd suggest 3M Fine Line tape. It's around 1/8 to 1/4 wide, flexible, blue tape. It's the same stuff I've used to mask off 2-tones and flames with. As long as the lip is clean, the tape should stick fine.

I've also heard of the Petroleum Jelly method, and it works. But personally I prefer to use tape. It's not as messy, but it takes a little more time and patience.

Agreed. The good part about using the jelly is that you don't have to worry about scratching the wheel. If you use an Xacto to cut and shape the tape, there's a chance that you'll scrach the lip. BUT, when done correctly it's probably better to use the tape method.

i don't think i could get the jelly into all the areas i need to, the spokes and lip end rather with tight clearance, i think tape might be more effective. I"ll look for the 3m stuff at the local hardware place, thanks guys

When I painted my SSR's (formula mesh) I just took the center disks out.

thanks for all of the ideas i'll probably go with the engine paint or the caliper paint + a clear coat

If that doesn't work out, I used some Rustolem spray paint (the Tough Guard stuff). It's made for outdoor durability and it has withstanded a year of brake dust with minimal fade. Its about $4 a can at any hardware store.

GL and post some pics when you finish your rims.

i don't think the high heat paints are supposed to be clear coated. i know for a fact that brake caliper paint are not supposed to be clear coated. the clear coat will take the paint off
