my brother does wedding photography on the side, afterall he has a degree in Photography, and makes average about 8-12K on just middle class families.

that is very very very rare for a wedding photographer to even think about offering that much, My father is a photographer and has done weddings, although he does mostly magazine automotive photography, but he would be shot by a fireing squad if he tried charging that much and he is probably just as good of a photographer as this guy, but for all of you thinking about this profession, all i can say is networking does wounders if ur gonna freelance, if you work for some kind of magazine or news paper, prepare to get paid like a migrant worker

Ok guys seriously, people are that good, if not better. Although if thats just photography then anyone who signs up for that is getting screwed and has to much money to care.
