View Full Version : Thermostat Location????

Okay so i might be a dumb ass but me and my buddy just tore apart my upper radiator hose looking for the thermostat. My 90 240sx heats up really fast and i have no clue why, its not low on coolant, new radiator and all new hoses. a teacher at UTI told me that my thermostat was probably sticking so i bought a new one and went to insatll it today but i couldnt figure out where its located so any help on the issue would be appreciated

Also you can test your stock thermostat by putting it in a pan of water (submerged) on the stove. Heat up the water with a thermometer and make sure the thermostat opens around 180 degrees. Make sure to bleed all the air out of your cooling system using the bleed screw on the intake manifold, because that often causes overheating.

Do yourself a favor and download a service manual for your car (see link in my sig) to help avoid asking embarassing questions like this in the future :keke:

yeah i feel ridiculous, i go to school for automotive technology and i couldnt figure out where it was, but thanks guys

i took mine off....now that its cold and my radiator is half inch thicker that stock the needle dosen't even move so i covered most of my radiator and stays at regular temp...also i don't have any fan on my car right now...i never use it....never had any problems....

might want to check ur waterpump, u dont really need a thermostat.

w.o it, its going to take FOREVER to warm up and the poor guy is going to freeze.

hes got a point its 17 degrees today, but i'll check out the water pump, any other ideas

im just stating u dont really need a thermostat, its for warming up the car faster... sucks tho u guys have to deal with the really cold climate.. that really sucks.... but check ur waterpump it somestimes go to shit also.....
