A while back I got in a front end accident ... minimal damage ...
I replaced the radiator , bought an external transmission cooler ... and re hooked up everything . The only thing that I didn't hook back up was my heater and AC all that stuff .
Well it starts , runs fine ... only problem is ... I can't shift out of park . Does anyone have any suggestions as to why it would do this ?

I am taking a stab at this and guessing you've got an auto (tranny cooler).
Try pressing that shiftlock button when it is pressed fully forward. And then drift into a wall.

And i like how your post is also chock full of detailed information that will also help others that have this problem.
I've removed my AC and heater units myself, and it works just perfectly fine.
Can you normally shift out of gear when the car is off? Or does it just happen when the car is started?

ok ... here what happens ...
i start the car , it starts a little bogged i can feel it and hear it ...
once i even try to shift from park to reverse , nuetral anything ... it's as if the shifter is stuck ... there is no more to say ... it won't budge in the slightest ...
i tried it off also , nothing ... and tried it with the key in the accesory position , still nothing ...
there's a small clicking sound in the engine bay around the fan and belt , but i can't figure out what that is either . a little help ...
also _ where the fuck is the transmission dipstick at ?! i can't put any fluid in there !?

I had this problem in my Jeep, so my experience may not help with your 240. There is a cable that runs from the shifter to the ignition cylinder. This prevents the little button on the shifter from being depressed, unless the key is turned. Are you able to push the shifter button in? If not this could be your problem. It was for me. Part of the mechanism at the ignition cylinder had somehow broken or become loose which caused the cable to get stuck and would prevent the button from going in. In typical Zilvia fashion, I used a hose clamp to hold everything back together like it should be.

You will have to reset your ecu. My friend was in a 10mile an hour collision that destroyed his front end. He had the same issues. Reseting the ecu might work, but then again I don't exactly know what is wrong with your car.

i'll start by reseting the ECU then since tracing a cable is a little harder .
if that doesn't work i'll go ahead and trace the cable and get back to you guys ... thanks to all ... ...

Are you holding down the brake pedal?
And the clicking noise could be the plastic that surrounds the fan, it could have came loose at one of the connection points and the fan is smacking it.

So after spending days and weeks of troubleshooting this problem ... a solution was reached .
Rocking the car back and forth - kicked the transmission loose .
If anyone has a similar problem , I hope this thread can be of some assistance .

Auto dipstick is besides the EGR valve, make certain it's full when the engine is warmed up and running.
