View Full Version : Getting a new windshield...
Do I just go straight to Nissan since the glass has that reflective piece in it. My windshield is about to crack from top to bottom, its getting worse everyday in this Texas heat.

I ran into the same thing about 8 months ago, a local auto glass shop quoted me a really high price for the glass w/hud. It was so high that i said screw it and went with one without HUD. I had it installed for $130, thats windsheild and labor together. I went had the darkest window tent cut to the size of the HUD and put the tint in its place. It basically works the same, but sometimes in sunlight its tuff to see the display. I personally didn't want to spend the money becuase the HUD windshield cost way too much
Oh yea, you should be able to get the HUD windshield from any auto glass shop.

I thought you can buy just the reflective decal for it? I know maybe Nissan might not sell it, but www.defi-shop.com sells 'em for their aftermarket HUD. I'm pretty sure it'd work, but if not... the hud'll still work I think.
hehe tape a mirror to your windshield =)

I didn't look really close, but it seems the reflective portion is built into the windsheild...I could be wrong

The reflective tape essensially makes it a mirror.
A mirror is just a piece of glass w/ relflective backing. If you buy the reflective backing and put it on the outside of the windshield you will get the same effect
Just make sure it doesn't block the VIN

i have the same problem i cracked my hud windsheild. and even with my employee discount it'll cost me 650 for the windsheild. aftermarket was wayy more 800+!
so i took the darkest limo tint and tryed to see if it worked with my current windsheilkd and it actually looks better. i havent driven with it yet since i havent bought a new windshield yet. but im going aftermarket installed for 180 and just put the tint like 91blk240 said.
i fixed my crack (that sounds funny) on day one, and it hasnt spread.
i found a hud windshield at a junk yard for $150 canadian but i dont need it.

for 150 dollars, I'd snatch it and keep it stored just in case. You probably won't find that again...

Umm so there IS a HUD unit for 240s? Was told there wasnt one in another thread. Sorry for jumping on this one but if there is a HUD, what years and trims did it come with? And is there a way I can still go to Nissan and get it installed if my 240 doesnt come with it? Anyone have any pics?

S13 coupes have HUDs.
I have seen many coupes without the reflective patch, I have talked to a few of them and they don't seem to have any problems with seeing the display, I have always been worried about that since I have several large chips in my windsheild, some tint doesn't sound like a bad idea though, I think that if mine ever does need replacement that's probably what I will do.

just my opinion it sucks not having any tint or the reflective piece for the hud

check that place, $150 canadian, or $100 USD
there are way more too, i only checked the canadian yards.

Uhm .. you don't need any kind of reflective tape at all. Here's a pic of my '91 SE coupe (for those who wondered which models it was in), and as you can see, even during the day it's legible. Maybe not the clearest thing in the world, but certainly not unreadable. And, at night, it's downright beautiful. Again, this is with a completely normal windshield.
