View Full Version : Just how bad is it really?

All you people with slammed rides, whenever you go over bumps and scrape underneath your car, how bad is it really? My car isn't even that low, about a finger gap around on some 15" mesh. I want to lower it more, but whenever I go over bumps around here, I scrape. I hit something on my tranny too. Whenever I go down from the bump, I hit something and a loud THUD and my shifter shakes. Then I scrape my exhaust and what-not.
I know alot of you guys are slammed beyond belief. Any adverse effects over time?

bent tc brackets
um..scrapped up diff and tranny
and sparks sometimes
dented/scratched exhaust
flattspotted pipes
crushed frame rails
but nothing that will SERIOUSLY affect the car
until you start breaking important stuff
i wouldnt worry.
just always do the 'safety check' whenever you work on your car. check for loose or broken items regularly.

Dousan has spoken, therefore it is golden. It's just that loud THUD that gets me, and when my shifter shakes. I go sideways, but I still can't avoid it.
Looks like I'll be lowering my car more later today. :Ownedd:

It might just be me, but whenever i get the solid thud, like hitting the transmission or oil pan i get a funny feeling in my balls.

not 100%, but, i think the shifter shaking is because of the exhaust hanger attached to the transmission. it shakes the shifter when your exhaust scrapes. mine does it too.

same here, my shifter does a little shimmy when I go over speed bumps. I say screw going sideways over speed bumps, I'm one of those sick bastards that takes them head on and wants to hear the scrape. I also wait for the car to teeter when pulling out of steep driveways, just so the traffic around me can see. I wear my undercarriage/exhaust scrapes as a badge of honor, screw lifting the car back up...lol

ive been through a few tc brackets, ripped my exhaust off at the rear axle, and defenitly worn that little nub off the bottom of the tranny. my car is pretty slammed, but not that crazy.

I'm not even that low but my problems have been:
Annhilated catalytic converter shield
scrape marks all over trans and diff
got stuck on the diff a few times, had to shake the car like hell to get it off
broke rear seal on trans when i went off track at a speedtrial event
bent some subframe
tore the splash gaurd off
smacked the oil pan a couple times
teeter totter on some bumps and driveways (just gotta get some momentum)
father giving me hell about how low it is ^_^
Still too much gap between 15"s and fender.
good times. If my driveway wasnt a cliff, i'd lower it more.

I think that's correct. I guess I have nothing really to worry about.
I was going to lower my car even more today, but my friend has my jack, so boo. I might as well install the RUCAs I never had a chance on installing.
Thanks for all your responses.

i scrape on alot of stuff, but it's worth it. I like rolling up to a 'lowered' hoopie and his trunk line is level with my roof. Frame scrapes are for men.
- too low for aero :)

i asked rbs14 about his car one time
he said his exhaust was permanently bent into a 'D' shape. now that's fucking low. lol.
my car isn't even that low, but with bumps in NJ i've dented an oil pan and scrape what i think is my tranny quite regularly.

I never had a problem with tranny issues when hitting bumps, but when I would hit some misc. junk on the streets or freeway that I did not see, I could feel that thing underneath my feet when I roll over, which is never a good sign when you can feel something underneath your feet:-/

well you are like me. but I wasn't able to drive my car in the snow, or to park my car in the street...so I don't see the point of driving it during the winter.
My oil pan have a dent also.... it's leaking from everywhere... I've to çfix that AGAIN.

Another reason I like my 18" my car looks lower (tire to fender gap) but im just a tad bit more off the ground than someone with smaller rims thats becasue my overall rolling diameter is just a bit more than stock overall rolling diameter. But then again I just have TEIN springs no coilovers yet so I cant be that low.

Having a lowered car in the hilly ass city known as SF I scrape and bottom out all the freakin time. You just have to accept the fact that the bottom of the bumper will look like a leatherface victim. All kinds of plastic protective stuff has scraped off the underside of my bumper, never to be seen again. Eventually I broke the bracket on my foglight and it popped out and I proceeded to run it over. Shit happens when your car is lowered but its all part of the game.

all those symptons are when your car is nearing seriously low. Hahaha my car sparks on 280 when i go into heavy dips in the road. I also got the shakes on the shifter going over even meaningless speedbump dont even look high. Mainly my lip bends in first then hits the bellhousing then the midpipe from the header which is flat now, then the cat then my resonator on the my exhaust then the exhaust itself. I always check underneath my car to make sure nothing is fucked up or anything. Oh also my stock bumper has already cracked. hahahahah. To give you a visual my s14 is rolling with 15f 16r no gap between tire and fender. I say is pretty low but i'd have to go another 1 inch to get to Dousan's ride. If you want to ride low, roll with the consequnces. But for me and a few others, if its not scraping its not low enough. :coolugh:

Well so far, I broke the exhaust bracket that hooks up to the tranny, exhaust leak off my furthest exhaust flange on my Blitz Nur spec *last flange right before the axles*, and ive manage to break 3 studs off my turbo elbow to the turbo. I just spent last wk end ripping my whole manifold and turbo out of my car so i can tap out the studs. Looks like I seriously need a flex pipe on my DP. I also raised up my exhaust as high as i could. I bent the hangers and hooked em in on the gap on the rubber hangers instead of the holes. So now its snug up there, prolly gonna end up melting part of my rear bumper since now its right against it.
