Like I said...what are you running in your cars.
Motor Oil: Valvoline 10W-30
Gear Oil: Not sure...what weight?
Tans Fluid: Not sure here either.
I will know after I yank em out and stick fresh fluid in there. I just wanna know what you run and if you think it helped with shifting, rear quiter....things like that. Also, I know about auto parts store fluids...I am looking for input on others like Royal Purple, Torco, Redline...you get the idea. I am leaning towards the Torco cause my negihbor swears by them, and he is running a high HP subie. Say's they make everything alot smoother. I just wonder if anyone is using it in their 240's.

-Mobile one 10w50 I think; whatever the "suv/truck" oil is.(k&n oil filter, filter type should be added to this too so everyone start listin that shit!)
-Royal Purple 75w90 in for tranny/diff, soon to be switching to Redline.
-Redline Water Wetter coolant additive.

Oil- Royal Purple 40W synthetic...it doesn't get cold here in Okinawa, along with a Japanese Mobil-1 oil filter.
Trans- Redline 75W90
VLSD Diff- Redline 75W90
10W30 is WAY too thin for a turbo motor, especially an SR in my opinion. I used to run 15W50 Omega, but it was breaking the bank at $20 a quart! Unless you're in a very cold environment, I wouldn't use those lighter weight oils. My 2-cents.

what is with everyone running redline in their missions?
Me, I prefer
10w40 to 15w50 synthetic for engine (usually mobil1)
75w90 dino oil for mission (been told by friends that redline causes premature trans failure, so *I* don't use it.
90w140 for diff (dino or synthetic, whatever). Heavy is good for 2-ways that see abuse.

Eh I was running shockproof heavy duty for a while, and it took about 5 min to warm up on driving, and maybe 15 min idling.
Yeah it sucks when it's cold, but shifts very well when its warmed up.
I recently flushed out all my fluids since it was due anyways. (swapped out the shockproof because my car is 90% dd and 10% track).

Engine: 10W-30 valvoline high mileage (I know, it's ghey, but when I used some full syn oil, I had a pretty bad oil leak :( )
Filter (Oil): Usually Nissan OEM. I used Bosch premium filter for this winter since I got to the dealership service dept. too late that one Sat afternoon.
Tranny: Lucas stabilizer + valvoline 95W-140? I can't remember, but it has high variance in temperatures... Takes forever to heat up in the winter time.
Diff: open diff has whatever the shit in there since I purchased the car (VLSD is sitting at home oilless)
Radiator: no brand name coolant.
Altima U13 with stock KA and ... 111K and going strong:
Engine oil: Mobile 1 syn 10W-40, whatever the oil that last 12,000 miles

i have found that torco makes my sr run better than ever... I use to run castrol syntec "one" or wut ever it is.. im now on my second oil change using torco and I can really tell a difference.. esp when it comes to the tranny and diff... I talked to kaaz awhile back and the dude told me the next best thing to kaaz fluid is torco.. its amazing stuff, same price as everything else.. but i have to pay for shipping... still, very worth it..
I think people should mention what motor they have when mentioning motor oil.
I used to run on my S13 SR20DET
motor: 5W40 Redline synthetic
Transmission: OEM 75w85 Nissan manual tranny fluid
VLSD diff: Redline 75W90
brake fluid: Motul RBF600

Somewhat irrelevant here i guess
LS6 Engine-Amsoil 5W30
6-speed Trans-Amsoil Universal ATF

You're going against the owners manual man!!
You're going against the owners manual man!!
For the vette you mean? It recommends Mobil 1 oil and Dex-cool for coolant. 2 products which i will NEVER use again.

I can understand the no go on the Dex-Cool since that is the spawn of satan in coolant form but why no Mobile One? I havent heard to much on Amsoil oils but I do know the quality is rather high. Any comments on their product?
This "ls6" 5w-30 is a specific oil made for that engine??? Maybe I'm just loosing my mind with all the engine codes but that IS the new z06's engine code is it not? I dont know domestics much so englighten me! Is this Amsoil oil synthetic?? Its funny to see you go against the grain though, so many Corvette owners I have dealt with have the frickin manual memorised and go by it as if it were the new testament for Christsake.
and yes atf in the tranny, Chevy is weird like that. The owner at my shop used it in his diff as well with a "lsd additive" I believe but I'm not entirely sure if I'm right or how recommended that is.

First off..98 and on Camaro and Transam + 97-2004 Corvette = LS1 (5.7L OHV V-8)
2001-2004 Z06= Ls6 (5.7L OHV V-8)
2005 and on Corvette = LS2 (6.0L OHV V-8)
2006 Z06=LS7(7.0L OHV V-8)
Oil analysis in the Lsx engines shows that Mobil One shows high metal wear compared to some better oils that are around the same price. These engine are designed to run super-hot oil temps and Mobil One thins out too much when this happens.
Amsoil is fully synthetic and they have a few different lines of oil available.
Amsoil, Redline, and German Castrol are the 3 top off the shelf oils when it comes to low metal wear in lab analysis of used oil samples. German Castrol says "Made in Germany" on the back and it used to be a black bottle with a green label, but now it's a black bottle with a gold label(Reformulated). Redline is the most expensive of these oils and performs about the same.
Mobil One actually falls in the same category as Amsoil as far as the basestock it's made from which is PAO(Categorized as Group IV). But they are completely different formulas and that's why Amsoil performs better. Most other synthetics like Castrol and Redline, and many others are highly refined petroleum basestock(Categorized as Group III) which is cheaper to process and use than the PAO basestock.
Another interesting thing about Amsoil is that over time, most oils get thinner and Amsoil actually thicker. Amsoil also sells oil filters that are good for up to 25k miles. Some local taxi cab drivers around my area use Amsoil since the first oil change and they change only once every 35k miles. A few of them have 500k+ miles on their original engines with no leaks and have never taken the oil pan off. Of course being a cab driver you can get away with this because the mileage put on those engines is very quick.. Less heat cycles means the oil lasts longer.
For more info on oil check out this website

DEXCOOL
When i first bought my car with 39k all the coolant looked rusty. Flushed out the Dexcool for about 20 minutes with a garden hose into cooling system. Refilled with only one quart of green coolant, one dose of Redline Water Wetter, and tap water. Been workin great since and it's still clean 8K miles later. I was only compelled to check my coolant after a customer came in with a late model Chevy Blazer with a clogged heater core(less than 50k miles) and rusty ass looking coolant. Then i realized i must have the same crap in my car..and sure enough. The end.

Too much blowby...and 10W30 means the oil IS a 10 Weight (that's why the W is after 10) that works as well as a 30 weight in the higher temps/pressures. My catch can never has had any accumulation, what about yours?
dct223
12-07-2005, 10:16 PM
u are mistaken, the W for motor oils stands for WINTER for SAE multi viscosity oils on the market.
420sx
12-08-2005, 07:31 AM
im not talking about that, im saying 30 weight is plenty for a low mileage blacktop. if u have a higher mileage engine higher viscosity would be ok i guess like 40, the thicker it is the more wear it does if its a new block.

shockproof iirc is the redline u dont wanna use on the tranny that chews shit up
stick w/ the MT90
Irukandji
12-08-2005, 02:43 PM
Eh I used the shockproof for 6-7 months. It's GL-5, so it'll corode your transmission if theres condensation in the transmission (could happen in cold weather). I loved it at the track because shifting felt so fluid, but it wasn't too friendly on my synchros. Sometimes I couldn't even shift into 2nd ... When i was changing my fluid, my tranmission drain plug had small metal flakes on the tip (it's magnetic). That shit was never there when I was putting the shockproof in, so I'm guessing the shockproof shit is pretty bad on the trans.
Sooooo I swapped it out for some MT-90 and all my problems were gone.
Sparknotes: If you car is DD, dont get shockproof.
I also ran shockproof on my diff.... no complaints, but I just ended up flushing it out for redline 80w140.

Shockproof is 90w250
MT-90 is 75w90 IIRC.
Stick with your MT90 like DousanPG said.
Shockproof is avaliable in 3 different weights.
