hey guys im very CLOSE in gettin a S14 w/ SR20DET swap but have several questions:
1. I know its illegal in california...is it in texas? i would think it is but do cops really pop under the hood for some visual checks when u get pulled over?
2. Will it pass TX emission?
3. What kind of gasoline does it use? 93? 87?
4. What is the stock quarter mile/0-60 times w/ a S14 engine in a 97-98 240sx?
5. If this engine do break down is there available/matching USDM parts to fix it?
Thank you!
Depending on where you live, you might not pass emissions. My car is reg in Harris county and they have a new emissions law, SR will fail, but in Montgomery county they don't test that, so I'd pass there.
I would bet 93 octane would suggested for optimum performance...(n e want to correct that??)
Stock SR swap, you're probably lookin to be in the mid to low 14's, be we all know that can be fixed.
Some SR20DE parts swap over, but you'd still have to look into ordering some items from a performance shop.
Where you located in TX, Why not call up http://www.Boostfactor.com if you're in Dallas, or http://IPNmotorsports.com if you're in Houston.

I just asked a cop the other day about doing the swap...According to him, the swap is legal if the engine has the VIN number or Serial number (can't remember which one he said) and can pass emissions. Swapping the engine is totally legal in the state of Texas. He also told me that if you can't pass emissions in your county, you can register your car in different county that doesn't have emissions laws.
A good place for parts for the sr20det in DFW area is either Boostfactor in Irving, or Speed and Sound Solution in North Richland Hills (DFW area).

It is not likely that you will pass emissions in Houston on Austin, but the rest of Texas should be fine.
BTW, I'm in Houston.

I have shipped three SR-20DET's to Longview TX. I shipped One 96 Blacktop, a 93 Redtop, and a 91 redtop. Those are for me and I shipped him a 99 S-15 Blacktop for his 95 240. I am fortunate enough to have a shipping company that ships by cubic ft instead of weight.
So far he has had it inspected and passed every time in Gregg county. If he does have any problems with it then he can go to Harrison county. You are good if you go to a back woods gas station authorized to do inspection.
