Smoke from Intake???

I just bought a S13 with a KA24DE. So in the process of putting it back together I started cranking it, and the car turned over a few times, ran for a half of a second and then, and then it cut off a, and then thick ass white smoke proceeded to pour out of the intake like fog. I cranked it again and it seems to be ok. I was just curious WTF happened though cause ive never seen anything like that before.
