My friend wants to race my 92 S13 i have a 5sp. with intake, exhaust, and header and he has a completely stock 95 Saturn SC2 5spd.
Anybody ever race one of these? If so what was the result?
Thanks!!

don't have an nswer to your question, but if you don't race him i stil consider it a loss. so try him out anyway. I don't know muhc about saturns, but I can't imagine them to be that fast. They seem to be more about safety than speed.

i'm pretty sure you'll bend him over and do him dry.

iirc in the earlier years they had the option of a 100 or 125hp engine. i can't imagine them to have much more than that. but they are kinda light. i'd still put my money on the 240 assuming you can drive decent.

He has the 125hp engine and is car is damn light most of the body is plastic.

If you were both stock it would be close to even. Since you have mods you should win, but it comes down to driver.

well, i would'nt even post this i would do a search and find out his stock 1/4 time. then i would consider what condition his car is in and my own. then i would consider who is a better driver... and other than that... i would just race him and see...

I know sykikchimp had "Please god, let my beat an SC2" in his signature. Now he has "Thanks god!" So take that for what it's worth

As for my experiences, I live 5 miles from the plant where the make all Saturns (and 30 minutes from the Smyrna Nissan plant) so there are lots of Saturns. I can beat the riced ones that are autos, and I suck at driving stick.
I have never had someone with a stick and 6cylinder try on me, yet.
You should be ok, I think they have 127 hp, stock, but damn are they light.
Good luck, and do keep us updated

They're 400 lbs lighter, but only have a 124hp engine with 122lb ft of torque. So there is a 400lb difference and a 30hp/30lb ft of torque difference.

I think you will take this one. And, even if you don't, at least you don't drive a Saturn.

well i had a saturn before my 240 and they are not that fast. even in stock form the 240 seems much faster. and i have raced one that had exhuast and i beat him very easily. i have a 95 with exhaust and intake. you will win more than likely

SR20Fastback

Id say hes screwed..more or less. I think my friend had one of those cars before he got his new truck. I raced him in my old base prelude (4th gen) and beat him and I only had about maybe 140-145hp.

shiq
05-12-2002, 08:57 AM
You should slaughter him.

After checking a couple of sites, a SC2 runs about 16.5 in the 1/4 stock.

A DOHC s13 should run close to 16 flat, you would be able to beat him if you were both stock....that i/h/e you have is just insurance..

ok... sorry about the delay in responding.. There was much drunken fuckedupedness this weekend... errr

SOO.. The "Please god statement was from my 90 Auto 240 days. Mu GF has a 96' Saturn SC2 5-speed, and she beat my Auto 240 w/ intake everytime. Now that I have a 92' 240, she can scare me if I get a shit launch, but I can still reel her back in before the 1/4 is over. My 240 was bone stock at the time. with I/H/E you should EASILY walk him.

But for you guys with AUTO SOHC's.. Watch out. I race a 94 SC2 to 110 and he was ahead the whole time in that car. Never caught him. 5-speed may be different.

Well I raced him!! Off the line i jumped about a half car length ahead! But he pulled even to me in 2nd and in he pulled just a little bit in front me in 3rd!! In 4th i started to gain back some ground and we were dead even i was slowly pulling in front of him and he slammed on the brakes to end the race before i passed him! Everybody is saying i should slaughter him well what did i do wrong then? Do you all think it was so close because my clutch is on its last leg with over 100k miles on it. I got my ACT street clutch waiting to get put in.
Thanks Everybody for your input and support!!!

done a tune up lately? If he was catching you in 2nd & 3rd, then either you were shifting to early or too late, or he has mods too.

I've always thought that the SC2 stole certain design elements from the Z32. Dont really think they pulled it off well.

I have a 95 and i was stock when i raced my friends 2001 it wasnt really close at all.. if you dont screw up your takeoff i pulled farther away in each gear and i was scared to shift above 4.5k back then i dunno why? anyway.. i have to defend saturns a little bit... they can look nice my friends looks pretty good... i like it better than a lot of the cars on the road today.. but it is still slow

Heh, I am scard to shift over 4k. When racing, I may got to 4.5K. I dunno why.
Oh wait, maybe cause my DOHC KA has 150k miles on it. Yeah, that's it. When I am ocassionally trying to race, is it okay to shift at like 5k with a stock car?

i did a tune up about 3months ago. Maybe i shifted to early or to late i shifted at about 6-62 hundred rpms. What do u guys recomend i should shift at?
Thanks!!

BadAssLil240sx
05-12-2002, 08:28 PM
guys, about shifting....if u look at dynos, our peak torque is at 5400 rpms, shift then. after that ur power drops off, and before that if u shift, u arent makin use of ur engines potential.

sykikchimp
05-12-2002, 10:29 PM
you don't want to shift at torque peak.. you want to shift were your next gear will land in the torque peak.

6000-6200 is actually about perfect.

and peak torque isn't at 5400 rpm.. on a stock 91 S13 DOHC, peak torque is at 4400 rpm, peak horsepower is at 5600 rpm

BadAssLil240sx
05-13-2002, 10:30 PM
thats dumb, if u shift to land the next gear at torque peak, whats the damn point? u have already maxed out the power of your engine. if u wanna make the quickest runs, run the car up to maximum power, then shift. redline is there just so you dont blow the damn engine up.

hmm, yeah, my bad, torque peak is at 4400rpm. but ill say this, i find most of my power in the range of about 3800 to 5500 in my car, thats just how my engine runs right now. if i race that way and shift around 5500, thats when i make my best runs. shiftin around 5500 keeps me in the perfect range to make the most of my engine in the next gear. just my 2 cents.

i ran a 15.9 shifting at redline, i ran a 15.7 shifting at 5400.
by the way, i have intake, ngk plugs and wires, and exhaust.
thats what i ran with just those mods. i know its weak, sr is on the way after i get the car back from the body shop.... bomex aero front, veilside sides, and cwest rear all rollin on 17's with an eibach sportline 2.25 inch drop.....oh yeah.

luey02
05-14-2002, 06:16 AM

I never said shift at redline. Shifting at redline in the 240 IS dumb. Redline is 6900 rpm on the S13. Basically what I was saying is to shift at the top of your power band, which is 6000-6200 rpm depending on the car. If you shift at 5400 rpm you will loose a lot of power, period. At 5400 RPM your Horsepower is still INCREASING. You don't want to shift beofre PEAK HORSEPOWER. but you don't want to shift AT peak horse power either b/c that will drop your rpms to a point where you engine has less power than it could if you just pushed it another 200-400rpm's.

now YOU read my sig..
