Who's tried the Toyo T1-S as well as other street tires?
I'm running on Azenis Sports RT-215's right now, might need new tires in next month or so.
i'm looking for something in the range of Kumho MX or Hankook Ventus RS Z212
As I can tell:
top street tires are Bridgestone S-02/3, RT-615, and BF Goodrich KD (and Advan Neova?). Those are out of my price range.
Cheaper street tires geared for longevity and drivability are Azenis ST-115, ES100 (bleh), and Kumho 712s (double bleh).
Where do the Toyos stack up? Closer to the performance of the better street tires, or more of a daily driver street tire?
NOTE: I'm not cool/man/smart/stupid enough to drift, so that is not part of the equation. Road racers' feedback appreciated.
Miata folks note slow turn in with the Toyos, but impressive wet/dry performance and good grip overall.

Hmm I've driven on ST115's on all four corners and I was having a blast on Grizzley Peak. Great consistent grip with good heat tolerance, stiff sidewalls, did i mention great grip?
Sorry i havent driven on T1-s's so I cant really say anything about them, but +1 for ST115's

Sorry dude, ST-115's are not even in the running. I'm sure they're great as a street tire and bang for the buck, but they are without doubt a clear step down from the RT-215, it's big bro.
If it's not the Toyos, it'll be the MX or Z212's..unless i get a steal on the S-03s or KD's.
Looking to have near equal performance, not less.
why o why did falken have to jack up the price of the RT-615's so much...shoulda kept the RT215's around and in more sizes.

The only thing I know about Toyo's are that they are great quality. My boss preferred the Kumho MX's over the t1s's on his Corvette though.

Actually, you might want to try the Toyo T1-R over the T1-S.
All the problems that the T1-S were fixed with the T1-R. Like the soft sidewall? Fixed on the T1-R.

Yea I run them, great tire, a lil pricey though i think it was about 132 a tire. I love them have great grip in my opinion excpet i havent had the chance to run them on a track so i dont know how to rate them when they get farily hot. But i do drive hard on the street and there a great tire. The sidewall is pretty stiff if you ask me.

ST115's aren't that great. I replaced 205/50/17 BFG KDW's on 6" wide wheels with 224/45/17 ST115's on 7" wide wheels on my SRT-4, and I noticed a decrease in straight line grip, but a small increase in cornering grip. The Azenis Sports, on the other hand, are godly tires. The SRT-4 with coil-overs, sway bars, and camber handled beautifully with them on there.

I've ran the Toyo T1-S for the last 4-5 years now on and off...
Those and the Dunlop FM901 are the most consistent tires i run. The T1-S are really good on longevity and grip is good (surpisingly well in the rain). Sidewall isnt the most stiffest, but its also not the softest. I cant really say there are any drawbacks. And yes they are discontinued. The T1-R's are a replacement for them. Another good tire from Toyo. T1-S/T1-R's are a decent overall tire for overall performance.

Hrm, didn't know about the T1-R's. I'll check into those.
And yes, the RT215's were frickin awesome....

No input on the toyo's but I am running the Hankook rs2's and like them alot, especially when the cost is factored in. They have great grip, progressive breakaway, don't make much noise, and thus far show no real down side. I haven't tracked them, but have pushed them pretty hard and they hold up well, I will be buying another set for sure.... 358 shipped for all 4 is good stuff !

Fm901's good specifically for drift or are they good for autoX too?
OptionZero

I've heard of drifters using them, but I do not see them at the Auto X area. Every one in the "S..." classes uses the RT-215 or MX (This was before the hankooks came out)

I'm looking for a good price track only tire for next year in a 15". The FM's are priced right and so are one of the Azenis, can't remember which one.

the only azenis you want are the RT-215's or RT 615's. The ST-115's aren't for track, they're for street/drift.
If you can find RT-215's, there's no question....GET THEM.

The Azenis RT-215 is discontinued. You might still be able to find some left over stock of them in some mom and pops tire shops and what not, but Falken stopped making those tires.
Only Azenis "sport" tire you can get now is the RT-615, and they are EXPENSIVE.
Here's the thing, lots of people are saying that the Hankook RS-2 tires perform about the same as the RT-615, and has slightly better wet grip, but overall dry grip is about even with the RT-615. But they cost like almost 50% less than the RT-615, that's the good thing about them.

And that's why I got them, and will continue to purchase them as needed until either something better comes along for the price, they are discontinued, or the price goes up too much. I really feel that they are the best value if you are looking for performance. The sizes available are somewhat limited, but if you can find something that will work for you I highly reccomend them. And for my current 16x7 and 16x8's they had exactly the size I wanted.
I have run FM901's, ES100's, ST115's, RT-215's, along with various others. However, when it came time to buy new tires recently, I went with the Toyo Proxes4. I am very impressed with this tire. It offers more grip than any other tire I've used except the RT215, and lasts a very long time. It's also extremely capable in the wet. I tested them on my evo, 7-month old Proxes 4's in front, brand new ST115's in the rear, and the Evo produced oversteer. I'm currently running them all the way around on my S13, and except for a little sidewall flex (which I reduced by stretching them) they are great. I even drifted on them this weekend, and they were very consistent throughout the heat cycle.

i have to imagine the proxes and st115 were significant downgrades from the...a032 (hard?)'s that the evo comes with stock

I traded in the Azenis 215's for the Hankook 212's (rs-2)
Great tire, very similar to the old azenis, stiff sidewalls and slightly oversized widths. Center channels are pretty wide, could have toned those down a bit and had a slightly larger treadblocks, but the trade off is they are a little quieter than the azenis were. As far as rain traction, it's a tad better than the old azenis but still not great.... if your a person who cares about that ( I don't)
I think the 212's can't be beat for the money, I paid $112 per tire for 235-40-17's and they are a very close replacement for the old 215's.
I still wanna try the new 615's, but the price (and the hideous tread pattern) still make me avoid them.

ah...shit...to pick between the T1-R's and the Hankooks...i was leaning toward toyo to try something new, but now the hankooks sound so good

AO46's actually. Yeah they are a big time downgrade, but I no longer have to spend $1000 every 7000 miles to replace the tires on my "daily driver," and the money I save goes into the S13 (i.e. the car that matters) (edit: Wow, something must be seriously wrong with me :P ) In all actuality I hate driving the evo without it's Advans.

I run the rt615s now, and at $160.xx a piece, they are defintely expensive. A brand new set only lasts me about 6 months, this means im paying over $100 a month on tires. So ive decided to get some st115's and get a set of track wheels/tires. The old azenis were great, they just sucked in the rain. I haven't tried the hankooks yet, however ive heard they're awesome as well......and cheap.

The Miata guys really like Toyo......

Hankook RS2. I used them out back for drifting and they were awesome. They grip really well and handle the temperatures of drifting well. They smoke nice and don't chunk so you know the compound is good. They got a little greasy after repeated runs in 95 degree weather but that is expected from most tires.
On my way to the track that day, I had khumo MX in 225/45/17 in the front and the RS2's out back in the same size. I took angeles crest (high speed mountain road) to willow springs to get used to the tires and I was really pushing it as I got used to them. The car felt very neutral so I could tell the tires were very comparable in grip. Didn't experience any sudden loss of traction and it made me drive very confidently. You can not go wrong with the RS2 from my personal experience with them. The only problem is that the sizing is limited. They don't have anything really wide.

It's ok, I can't afford any wide rims to put wide tires on =P
Thanks for the links dave.
I'm thinking of going with the Toyo T1R when my new rims come in for the Evo. All other tires seem either too pricey or don't come in the right sizes.
The current stock A046 is awesome but expensive and won't fit the plus sizing I am planning on for wheels.

Just thought I'd clarify for point that, that deal is for ANY TIRES, not just Hankook and Yokohama tires.

Their price for shipping aren't the greatest though.
They're only good if you live in Florida, as shipping 1 tire from Miami to Orlando is around $7 (a little less than that, but $7 is a good figure for approximation).
Shipping to SoCal is probably a lot more.
In that case, you might want to go with Discount Tires, if they have the T1-R (I don't remember if they sold Toyo or not).
