View Full Version : NEED HELP ON DIRECTIONAL TIRES!
Ok, I thought my tires were on backwards but are they really?
This is how they are currently on...
Looking from the FRONT:

Looking from the REAR:

I'm sure this makes no sence at all. But this is how they look standing in front of my car and then standing behind my car (makeing the front right and rear left tire the same tire just at the reverse angle).
Someone tell me I'm totally wrong in thinking something is messed up with that. My mechanic and the tire shop already told me nicely that i'm a total dip shit (if you want to join them, go for it) but it just doesn't make sence to me.
From the front, the right would spray water to the right (away from the car) but the left would also spray water to the right (into the car).
PS: the grip on these is awsome...just don't slide AT ALL or they will only last a week anyway almost $440 later I have tires that are awsome and will most likely last me only 6 months...

well, afaik, that wide circumferential groove should always be either on the outside, or the inside of the tire, so you can double check that. it looks like it's always on the inside, which means they are on right, or all 4 corners are goofed.
also, on the sidewall, there should be something that says "direction ----->" with an arrow pointing the direction the tires should roll when moving forward. at least it shows this on my dunlops.
EDIT: look at thos pictures you just posted, those tires are mounted on the wheels properly i assume. that groove i was talking about is on the inside of the tire, if that groove is on the inside of all 4 of your tires, i'm guessing they're on there correctly. remember, you want the same treadblocks on the outside of all 4 tires for cornering purposes, don't just think rain.

there should be a directional arrow on the sidewall somewhere....
also, your pics better not be how they're set up right now... the front view is the same as the rear....
i'm thinking it should look something like this:
view from rear:
http://members.aol.com/a7r/240/falkenlf.jpghttp://www.steamymirror.com/dsc240sx/images/rims/falkenrightf.jpg
basically, your pics are saying you have one tire with a tread pattern going one way (look at the diagonals) and the other with the tread going the other way.
I get the feeling that neither ace or tnord read my entire post
Edit: and btw, it DOES say "outside" on the side faceing out all around. It looks like the only way to get it setup like ace has pictured (how i expected it to look) is to have designated left and right tires.

Directional tires are designated sides. You can only rotate from front to back but not side to side.

Hey dipsh!t - did you see on the tire where there was a directional arrow? Or "Rotation -->"
Did you see where it said outside?
Azenis, right?
Don't recall a rotational arrow? Recall "outside"?
That's b/c the Azenis is not a directional tire - you merely put "outside" to the out side and you are done.

i would go by his picture... and yes it should say on the tires how they should pointing
Well, I went ahead and got them to do my alignment too (after realizeing that they DO know how to put tires on). While it was being aligned I was talking to someone there and he mentioned my sway bars...bla bla bs bs bla...him: "your not gona lower it are you" Me: "not for a little while, but yeah" Him: "don't its only for looks and will make your ride worse" Me: "yeah it'll make my ride worse but it'll help my handleing by lowering the center of gravity and reducing weigh transfer" Him: "I always tell people it will make their ride worse and they do it anyway and come back and tell me how bad their ride is...you shouldn't lower your car" Me: *thinking*"OH DEAR GOD, I'M DOOMED"
At that point I realized that these guys really are morrons, like I originally though, dispite the fact that they can put tires on.
Now that I spent $60 for alignment my steering is off...I went back and complained and they can't get me in untill later this afternoon or tomorrow...FUCKERS!
Those tires look like they should be on the way aceinhole p-shopped them, but others say they're multidirectional... I personally have no experience with Falkens, but I would imagine your car would handle kind of funny if you had them on the way your original post shows as opposed to how AceInHole's post shows them. strange.

what you should do is ride around and find a midas or a mineike (spelling?) where some young guy works with a honda or something and always go there. that way he understands why you do stuff and he wont mess up your car, and he knows what your talking about... I got a friend that works at a mineike and he use to own a 96 240sx when i met him.. and he always takes care of me when i come and gives me deals..

Actually, that is 100% opposite of the advice I would give you. My advice, if you don't know people around you that know their stuff, would be to go to an event around you (autox, track event, even drag strip) and look for sponsors of race cars.
The guy with neon tubez and 18's on a Civic I don't really trust to do it right. The guy who pays out some money to support a racer - that guy I a) like and b) trust. I know a few shops up here that, upon request, will specially align your car for the type of driving you do (i.e., highway, city, autox, or track) - yes there is a difference! I know about them through word of mouth and knowing who takes care of racers.
Oh yeah - for most people - I bet he's right about lowering and people's rides do suck - especially down there.

I think it depends completely on how you lower your car. If you just put lower springs on OEM struts, or cut the springs, of course your gonna have sh!t for ride quality. But it you do it right, then it will be fine. He's probably used to the two Sh!t options. Honestly how many people do you know have coilovers on their car just to lower it?
