no u dont need an intake....but on sum aplications they kinda stick a short ram on the compressor inlet to scavange for cold air <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'>
and u def nead a filter... because u don't want to suck ugly air in ur engine..

!?
Installing a turbo essentially means replacing your intake. You WILL need a new intake, but you won't want an Injen or the like. The turbocharger takes the air coming into your engine and pressurizes it. You'll need intake piping basically going from the filter, through the turbo, maf, etc, through an intercooler if you are going to have one, and on to the intake manifold.
So yes, you do need an intake, but you don't want a prefab intake for naturaly aspirated engines.

When you have a turbo, you don't need air anymore.

I think what most people are saying when they say "you don't need an intake" is you shouldn't buy an aftermarket intake that replaces the stock one, nor should you buy a replacement header either. This way you can save towards your turbo. But you still need and intake to 'take-in' air. Without air in your engine, nothing would happen.

Any good cone filter element will do...a K&N should be pretty good.
