View Full Version : 7"-8" wide 15"-16" whls for S14 5lug?
'Bout to get track wheels for my '95 SE. I'm primarily interested in keeping weight, tire OD, and costs down, so I'm trying to stay below 17". At the same time I'd like to have at least the option of running 245 width track tires. Needless to say, I'm finding the availability of 16" wheels that fit severely LIMITED. But lo and behold, a searh at 1010tires.com turned up Motegi LC5 wheels available in 15x7 (35mm offset, would likely need 5mm spacers at least) and lo and behold, 7" is actually the min rim width listed to run Hoosier 245/50-15s.
Anyway, it's got me thinking...
Seems like clearing stock brakes shouldn't be a concern, but of course I'd be limited on future upgrades there. Just thought I'd run it by the community to get yer thoughts. FWIW, anti-drift wide tires on narrow-ish rims bothers me not at all.
I've searched and found little, does anybody have a secret magical source for 15" and 16" wheels, 7 - 8" wide, 5-114.3, with offsets in the ~20 - 40mm offset range?
Thanks!
Dan

245 on a 6 would be really freakin bad.
Suggestions:
-lots of meshies in the 15/16 inch diameter, 7-8inch width range, look for a 5 lug perhaps
-BNR32 Skyline GTR: 16x8 +30, forged. Can't fade that.
-Kosei K1: multitude of sizes, up to 16x8.5, you can fit your 245's well on those. Bad part you have to go thru tirerack
Thanks for the links, DPMichelle.
Good info, OptionZero.
You'll be glad to know I'm not considering trying a 245 on a 6" wheel! I'm *thinking* about *possibly* mounting a 245 on a 7".
Hoosier lists 7"-9" rim width for the 245/50-15 R3S04. Possibly made to fit narrow wheels for classes where rim width is limited by the rules. Of course it could also be a typo (I'd check with Hoosier first of course!).
If I can find lightweight 16x or 15x 7.5" or 8" wide wheels that I like for reasonable bucks and with reasonable offset (~25-32?), I'll go that route. For some reason the Tire Rack's not showing the Kosei K1 for the S14(?). Might give 'em a call.
Otherwise, I'm getting the 35 offset Motegi 15x7s (though it might limit me to 225s). Love the look, they should fit, light weight, reasonable $$, cheap tires.
Thanks again for the leads, feel free to whack me upside the head if the offsets I'm considering are, um, wack.

7 inch wide and 254s would still stuck i think.
maybe for like drag racing if thats what the car is for. otherwise you could would kinda suck if you had those on, esp. in the front.
i like the feeling of a smaller tire, better response.

man someone was selling 5x114.3 15x7 +17 mesh wheels in F/S for only $200 bucks
check it every now and then
I've got mesh Enkei 92 track wheels for the 240z, and I'm kinda sick of mesh! (damn, he's picky...)
OptionZero, found your R32 GTR wheels you sold searching the For Sale forum. Looks like they turn up there semi-occasionally. I'll keep my eyes open, 16x8, 30mm, ~16 lb., just about ideal.
sdtouge, comments duly noted. But if Hoosier indeed approves that 245/50 for a 7", I'd bet beer that it'd be quicker around a road course (my intended usage) than 225s, given a car with reasonable (i.e., >Miata) power. That said, if I can find 7.5 or 8" wheels I like, that's the route I'll go.

Kosei K1's come in 16x8.5 +22 I think. Check out on TireRack, you have to call to get the right info I believe. Not to pricey either

don't rely on TireRack's website, CALL and bug 'em, cuz their website doesn't let you search rims by size, only brand and "car specs" (bullshit!)
Don't put a 245 on a 7, don't put it on anything smaller than an 8.
